What you said at 18:28 is so true. I'm a beginner woodworker and had a lot of trouble following the plans. I cut everything exact according to plan but sometimes it doesn't add up correctly. When I started following the dimensions on the workpeice instead of the plans, it all started coming together better.

Yes soft close hinges. I usually disable the soft close function on one or two of my sister's kitchen cabinets whenever I'm over for a family meal or something. It's hilarious to see her reaction when the doors close quite loudly. Great build, Shane. This is such a unique piece and very creative.

yes and no to soft close. I like having one hinge with soft close. I find two soft close hinges is too slow of a close. Of course I always end up putting two soft close hinges in and then turning one off. I really should start buying both types and just install the one, at least for stuff I build that's staying in our house. love the walnut and white oak combo. I'm thinking of doing something similar to yours in terms of the two woods, but in reverse. Mostly white oak and some walnut accents. If there was an award for always cutting where a domino is I think I'd have one. I never fail to miss cutting where I have a domino.
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks Жыл бұрын
Hey, I can totally get behind that. Some times you just want to close the door an move on. I think the reverse combo works really well too and don't worry, you aren't alone. 😀

Soft close, but only if I HAVE to do cabinet doors because they suck to install. Also - yes, I over-engineer everything so that my pieces will survive the Sun's inevitable death. Your design isn't in my range of preference, but what I enjoyed was seeing how you arranged all that complex cutting and assembly - underappreciated skill there, dude. I noticed your dad joke hand is still powerful, and now you've upped your game with Dad/Coach shorts... This Is The Way.

Yes soft close. Beautiful piece. I’m struggling with the rounded waterfall on my current project. I have a perfect waterfall with lovely walnut grain and I’m afraid to lose it. Did you consider rounding just front and back?
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks Жыл бұрын
You will get a little distortion when you round over the miter but it’s not really noticeable. It’s just the nature of cutting into the middle of the board. But if you’re worried about it, just try the front and back and see how it looks. For me I think the rounded case made sense for the overall all look.

Enjoyed the video and your jokes, thank you! I’m new to woodworking and I would like to ask a question: in this project the back of the cabinet is glued to the shell, so unless I’m missing something, it may not be able to expand and contract, correct? The same situation is with the shelves that are glued to the sides and their grain direction is perpendicular to the sides. Is this design going to work in the long run? Thank you
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks 11 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it, and welcome to the craft! As for your question, the rear panel though, snug isn't so snug it can't move a tad. The shelves however are another story as they are in pretty tight. But in this case wood movement isn't really a concern. The amount of movement that may occur is negligible, and each panel should move with the other. This isn't to say that some small gaps won't form over time, they probably will, as they would with any piece of furniture. Here though, it wasn't a concern.

Yes soft close. This was awesome loved the dad jokes, was not sure about the design and application of this project - but damn it still came out great. Also it took me a few rewinds, to get the highlander joke and then I got to my final dimension jajaja. And just like your cabinet, There can be only one. Great job.

Haha, Thank you so much. I know it’s not a conventional design but it’s definitely conversational. Besides I think it gives me a reason to design a chair to accompany it.

Interesting and unususal design. I wish you had show it in a situation where it is in use. Now that you have lived it a bit, do you feel your design brief was sucessfull? End if not, what would you change?
@TimberBiscuitWoodworks

Thanks! I think overall it was a success, though the design does require a specific placement for it to work properly. But overall I wouldn’t change a thing. Thanks for the great questions! And I’ll be sure to add a few in use shots in the future.
