The explosive arrows can be done with two lines of code with it being universal to not only players but mobs as well. It doesn’t require summoning a creeper either and the code was popularized by command geek. I love this tutorials man! I’m subscribed!

But the thing is you want to have a unique bow which shoots explosives while other bows cant. That's not a tutorial on making an RPG-7 out of all bows, but showing how to match a specific item with a specific ability. All these NBT tags stuff, that's the reason this video exists...

So, you can add advancements, dimensions, write functions, alter loot tables, add recipes, change world gen, and do numerous other varied things, all without coding, yes? Why is it, then, that the general function of data packs sounds like it provides an interface to accomplish many of the same overall goals as do traditional compiled mods? Could it be that, in the end, they are also mods, albeit code-free ones? From a technical viewpoint, the files comprising a data pack would go through the same procedures as would a code change, according to ISO 9001 standards. There correct or incorrect implementation can break the game, cause certain features to work incorrectly or not at all, could affect all players on various platforms, and could even lead to server outages. If I were to argue to my internal CCB (Change Control Board) that these files were exempted from ISO procedures because no code changed, they would laugh me off the call, and I would likely be facing a rather unpleasant discussion with my division IT manager as well as the head of the CCB. In the end, we are talking about semantics, to some degree. The difference between you and I is that I fully understand that the desired outcomes of data packs is congruent with the desired outcomes of traditional Java mods: To modify the client-side (gameplay) and/or server-side behaviors of Minecraft. More importantly, however, is that they *do* have the same general outcome; they change the behavior of previously developed, compiled software. To that end, they qualify as a form of modding. No IT professional of any tenure who has sat through an outage caused by a "non-code change" would agree with your take on this. As a side note regarding that point, I am or have formerly been, by profession over the past 20 years, a Systems Administrator, a Software Developer, a Change Control Manager, and a Software Quality Analyst. In none of those roles would I have sided with your viewpoint on this. Agree or disagree as you wish, but you are simply not correct.

Guys if it starts to summon lightning bolt regularly without right click, try turn all command blocks to "needs redstone" and remove your scoreboard. Then turn all command blocks to "always active".It worked on me:)

1:45 actually there is a way you can detect an arrow directly, if you take your player UUID and put it into a command like this: /execute as @e[type=arrow] at @s if entity @s[nbt={owner:[I: insert your UUID here ]}] run ... this will detect of a certain player is the owner of an arrow. To get your player UUID you need to do: /data get @p then look for where it says UUID, it will be a bunch of numbers.

The way to fix spawning lightning problem: (it worked for me, I am not sure that it will work for you too) The third command block must be purple (click repeat) and this is what the command should look like (same as in the tutorial): scoreboard players remove @a[scores={exampleobj=1..}] exampleobj 1 The first command block should be green and the last two are purple. Make sure everyone is set to always active.

That means you didnt add the scoreboard detection part or its not resetting the scoreboard. Make it display on the side to see which.

i typed out the 2nd command for a projectile exactly but it's not working, any reason why? edit: i got it, but now it just doesn't work? there aren't any errors, and i made my scoreboard 0. am i doing something wrong or are my commands broken somehow? edit2: i even re-did the whole item (made sure i had the right tag and stuff), changed the settings to conditional and back, and changed all of them to repeating at one point. i changed it all back now (none are on conditional and the first command is repeating, the other 3 are chain). it still isn't working, is there an easy fix or do i have to make a new world or something?

How would one go about creating a custom item that uses ammunition? I also wanted to ask if it is possible to set a custom texture for a custom item as opposed to a custom model. (Example: Have a sword that is in the minecraft style, but not 3D) Apologies if these are dumb questions, I'm very new at this XD

For custom ammo, store the amount of ammo by using a command that executes on all players and then : execute store result score @s your_ammo_scoreboard run clear @s yourammoitem{yourammonbt}. That should score the ammo(not sure if thats the exact syntax, i dont have the syntax checking here). Then before shooting check the ammo. And after shooting clear 1 ammo item.

For 2D models you can just copy paste the json model file from any normal 2D item like a diamond and then change the name of the file to your custom model name, and then change the layer 0 to your custom texture. Then link it up to an item with custom model data as normal in the other json file.(watch my troubleshooting video for how to get the default files)

Heya timber forge, just wanted to ask a question: How about when for example I want to make a grenade item with the base item being a bow? How can I detect if the "arrow" hits a mob or a player then setting the detonation?

Execute as and at all arrows with the custom tag and just detect if the entity is near instead of detecting if it is directly hit, thats probably the easiest way to do it. Just execute at the arrow and have an execute if entity command . You can probably do a detection for hitting it but that would be a bit more complicated.

Im trying to make a armor stand, "Telescope" that gives you slowness when you stand next to it and I can't get the command that kills it to work. The command is "/execute as @e[tag=telescope] at @s run kill @s" and the custom tag of the armor stand is "telescope:1b". How do I do it?

I know i'm late, but there is a difference between the "tags". The command you're using kills entities that have been tagged with the /tag command, so you would need to do /tag @e[type=armor_stand,sort=nearest,limit=1 while standing close to the armor stand. What you need is /execute as @e[nbt={Tags:["telescope:1b"]}] run kill @s Try that without the quotes if it doesn't work, I'm not sure if they actually go there

The method that you've shown in this video works with anything but potions (because when drank in any gamemode other than Creative, potions will turn into common water bottles which are not registered as used by the scoreboard objective). So I'd like to ask If it possible to make custom potions? Maybe with more execute commands? I couldn't figure it out myself so i wonder if you can.

I was wondering, this is working for player using the tool, but if I want to make a mob use such an item, I'm not really sure how to actually make the detections. Is that an @s with a player exclusion? Can it do weird things if multiple entities use the same item if it is throwable items? And also, for the scoreboard, what happen if you have multiple guys having the same custom item and they all use it? Will it trigger the functions for everybody using the same tool when someone use it? And an other question! (last one, promise!): What happen with your exploding arrow if you switch your bow with something else before it lands? Will the arrow still explode as you don't have the bow in hands when the arrow will be in the ground? I'm trying to understand the limits of it, I'm just getting started with data pack! I stopped minecraft long ago at the dawn of command blocks, so I'm rediscovering it and your videos are really helpfull!

Hi, awesome questions. For the first question though, I am not exactly sure what you mean by mob use an item. They cant use carrots on a stick as far as I am aware. What I do for mob attacks is I have a looping timer that has the mob run an attack function at a certain time interval, and from there I can control what the mob does. Sort of like how a skeleton will shoot at intervals once you are in range. If it is a throwable item, and any part of the function is dependent on a player, it can definitely do weird stuff(Like a throwable grappling hook) and there are different ways around this. Join my discord, I love these questions that you are asking. For the second question, the clicking scoreboard tracks a different number for each player, so while one player can have a click value of 1, another can have 0, and the function is only running as the players with the click scoreboard value of 1, so it wont cause weirdness as long as the function is being run on all players who are both satisfying the scoreboard and holding the correct item. Lastly, the way that the bow works is that it tags the arrow that was shot, so even if you switch off of the bow, the arrow will still have its tag, and the commands no longer care about who shot the bow, or what bow it was shot from. It just knows that the arrow is tagged with “boom” or whatever I used, and it will explode when it hits the ground. A tag will stay on an entity until it dies or is removed by another command. @@TimberForge My first question comes from the fact that when you're doing scoreboards and functions, you use the @a. But it only works to target a player. I was wondering how to make a weapon with functions that could also be used by monsters! I'm mostly thinking about using items to cast "spells", and I would like to make them usable by ennemies. Even in general, I'm not completly sure how to target a specific entity, rather than a type of entity. Ok! I was unsure if scoreboards were working for each players or was common to every one of them. Ok, that's really helpful! Well, I'm going to have a look at it. I'm just going in hermit mode for a while the time to learn the bases first, and I'll certainly be coming to share more "advanced" questions! Thank you for the answer anyway!

Oh, for targetting specific entities, use entity tags. I will release a custom mob video in the next month or so, but look into entity tags, that lets you, for example, summon in a mob with a tag called “spellcaster” and then when looking for all spellcasters, you can do as @e[tag=spellcaster]. And to add tags, either do “summon YOURENTITYTYPE ~ ~ ~ {Tags:[“spellcaster”]}” or do what I did with the explosive arrow and use the tag command. This way you can signify which entities you want to target. Also, i recommend joining the discord, we have a lot more people there that can give ideas.

First of all thank you for this series! Second, a question: For some reason whenever i try to do a lightning sword the lightning is not proccing. The scoreboard updates as normal but no lightning spawns on swing. I've check if the tag for the sword is properly written and everything seems in order. Is there a different scoreboard for right and left click? or can i just use the same command as with the carrot on a stick? Cheers

im so confused, does this work with swords? like if i wanted to do the exact same thing you did with the carrot on a stick but with a diamond sword, would it work? because it isnt for me even though i did everything you did exactly the same.

Nope. Only a carrot and warped fungus sticks can detect right clicks

it didn't work for me either. it's not that i get an error or anything, it just doesn't run the command. i've made sure it's not on conditional, i made sure the nbt tag has quotes around it, i even remade the whole item to make sure i had the right tag. but, your problem might be different from mine, make sure you have the right nbt tags and make sure you put the 1b in the item tag. if you are having the same problem, i still haven't found a fix.

Those are examples, it depends what ur trying to do. But honestly thats not a lot of commands and if ur gonna make data packs ir gonna have to know how to make those types of commands

The command block position has to be correct too, notice how his command blocks have like the arrow pointing to the next.

You'd have to also worry about whether you can't use it in a crafting recipe (snowball, egg).

Yeah loop works fine. If you want to optimize and simplify it more, you can make it run a function when the right click is detected, and put your result commands there. (If theres a lot)

The mandalorian episode has a cooldown, skip to around 33:00 when I add mando_pist_cool. If you follow from there it shows exactly how to prevent spamming. If you make the delay too low, spamming will still be faster than holding down. Someone on the discord said its a delay of 4 ticks needed.
