The best option would be to get a dual sport dirt bike with a Timbersled raw kit. You can ride the bike on the road and dirt when it's hot out ,and once it starts to snow you can install the Timbersled kit.

I have only ridden older style snowmobiles through mountain ranges and powder and absolutely hated them... spending hours pulling a heavy ass machine out of the snow half the day. I am sure the newer models are better... but the snowbike option looks way more appealing because of it's light weight and agility in comparison... but I'd have to try in person. You have much more experience with snowmobiles than I do. Nice video...

Both sports NEED to tone down their COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY PRICE gouging!!!! They aren't cars!!! Don't price them in the car category...maybe u would sell more, HONDA, KTM, YAMAHA, POLARIS/BRP, Skidoo, etc. Kia made cheaper vehicles at one point, so did Hyundai

I thought the same until i realized the amount of R&D that goes into these machines. In addition they are not selling many units at all when compared to automobiles. Almost 1Million F-Series Ford Trucks sold in 2018 vs. In 2018 there were 124,786 snowmobiles sold worldwide; 53,179 were sold in the U.S. and 47,024 were sold in Canada. They are definitely not price gouging with numbers like this.

Agreed. Especially because even a mildly used sled is about half the price. You can find a near brand new sled for around 6.5k on the lower end. Just let someone else get a brand new sled then buy it a couple years later the price will drop like crazy

The problem is all the dipshits that keep buying them. "Oh the r&d blah blah blah" sleds havent made a significant step forward in over 10 years and sled prices continue to soar every year. Why do you think sport atvs and side by side atvs have become wildly more popular for powersports in general? They were cheaper. Now they aren't, cause what happens when things get popular? Corporations decide to make more money.

Their reasoning is idiotic if you ask me. I imagine it's people who have only, and always ridden snowmobiles, that are saying it's bad just because they don't know anything about them, or they prefer snowmobiles anyway, so it doesn't matter to them if they're banned, if that makes sense. They say that snowbikes dig deeper into the snow and destroys the ground underneath, gets people to places that are harder to get too, which makes them harder to rescue or whatever, and they're apparently louder than snowmobiles. Here's the article if you'd like to read more. www.expressen.se/motor/ombyggda-crossarna-maste-stoppas/ In my opinion, all of those arguements are completely valid for modern snowmobiles as well, so the only reason I see they're banned is ''Because''.

Bryce Bohman sure. What im saying is that the best compromise between a snowmobile and a snowbike is a modified snow hawk. Because it blends the best parts from the two machines into one machine. Snowmobile Power with snowmobile clutch. Agility in the trees almost like a snowbike. Deep powder and steep hill climbing capabilities like a snowmobile. Unlimited Sidehilling like a snowbike. Etc etc.

I just took up dirt biking this year and I’ve ridden sled before but I’m definitely an amateur. My impression from what I’ve seen is that your overall fitness and skill level on a bike need to be pretty good to get into snowbiking, whereas it’s a lot easier to get into sledding. Has this been your experience?
@chiefb02
@chiefb02 6 жыл бұрын
giobikefans your fitness level needs to be greater on a sled as they weigh 450-550 lbs! A snow bike may weigh 200 lbs. Also snow bike are easier to handle and turn, side hill and boon dock. I'll never go back to a sled after owning a snowbike.

a snow bike would weigh at least 325 ish lbs. a 450 weighs about 225 and a timbersled kit weighs about 135. minus wheels and tires your looking at something about 325lbs
@JM-nt5fm

Opposite. Snowmobiles require crazy strength. They're designed for 200+ lb men. Snowbike require finesse. You can weigh less than 250 lbs. They're both getting lighter and more powerful year after year. The snowbike is 100 to 200 lbs lighter. If you're smaller the snowbike is world's better.

so WHY do you think that the bike isn't so good for Trails? I didn't understand what you meant.
@ThisTall
@ThisTall 7 жыл бұрын
I think the answer to the question here is, Mountains vs Prairies. Not meaning anything absolute but nobody in the Mountains is doing 100km of groomed trail in a day, or 5 days. So for many in the Mountains the bikes can take over and in many large crowds are. That being said the extreme performance of sleds lends itself VERY nicely to the mountains as well. So really is would just seem that the snow community is far more likely to be split in the mountains, where in the Prairies a sled is the clear choice.

Why not put a plate in front of the foot pegs on a snow bike to protect the rider's foot and leg from potentially hitting a stump or rock that is invisible under the snow. I feel like I would be scared the entire time I was riding in the powder that I was going to break my leg on a hidden object. Snowmobiles have a plate like this under and in front of the foot. Incorrect Information!!, SnoCycles ARE!!! trail legal, because they are technically a snow mobile. as stated in US regulations regarding snowmobiles, please read" TITLE XVIII FISH AND GAME CHAPTER 215-C SNOWMOBILES Section 215-C:1. it clearly qualifies snocycles as a snow mobile, the first snocycle was a 1978 cyrsler snorunner, and it quilifiys and is registered as a snowmobile, one ski or 2 it is still a snowmobile. i have been riding snocycles since 1986, they have evolved and are awesome ON the trail. my current machine ive been riding for 9 years and it is a dream both on and off trail.!! ps anyone can ride a snowmobile, but it takes a dirt bike ridder to handle the cycle!

Power to weight ratio is what really matters, I'm sure the sled will be ahead but I'm sure theyre damn close
