Can I assume that this tape is slightly cushioning, and helps to reduce wood on wood squeaking?

Quick question, I have pressure treated hemlock 4 x 12 25’ for my balcony stringers. I applied water seal decking on the top of the stringers where the railing is attached. Is there anything that you would suggest with protecting the stringers from rot and sun damage? Great content, appreciate all the work you’re putting into the channel.

If you're spending $15K-$20K on a damn deck, why the hell wouldn't you do everything you possibly can to avoid paying that kind of money again before it's absolutely necessary?

Here in Australia we’ve got this thin rubber on a roll with wings on it You basically roll it along and put a stubby broad head 10 mm nail every 1 m or so It costs about a dollar a metre... it’s called “protectadeck” and for whatever reason timbertek joist tape hardly used... don’t think I could Buy it if my life depended on it sometimes in specific areas where the rain really comes in you can use paint on bitumen paint on the wood plus some 0.3 mm aluminium flashing that’s coated in bitumen plus a bit of the rubber stuff between those three things you’re doing pretty good

Your videos are great! UV resistance? How fast will this tape degrade in direct sunlight in the pacific northwest (not for a deck but for rehab of ailing structures to get more life out of them)?
@bradeley64092 жыл бұрын
Instead of tape, Armadillo makes a plastic joist cover that fits over the top of a joist. Just tape the joints. Not sure if screws cause it to leak though. Will know soon.

I can appreciate the added protection, but then there's little to no reason to use pt wood above grade (except code) especially if treating the ends.

I don't see how that would protect the lumber. I would have to believe water would find it's way in. Use a perma-column and quit putting pt lumber in the ground.

@johnwhite25763 жыл бұрын
That depends, if you wnat your deck to last >30 years, you really want to ensure your joists dont rot at all, and not just in Floridian and Pacific Northwest. SE up to even Philly. That said, of course then you have to worry about your main posts near ground and your hangers - for me you either go all out (stainless hangers and joist tape under everything or forget about it as you say

I coudl totally agree with him 30 years ago, but today the PT lumber is just so much crap

@xyzct3 жыл бұрын
Good God, I have SCOURED the internet trying to find what tape is compatible with AZEK. Even Timbertech doesn't make it clear if Timbertech tape is compatible with AZEK. WTF! Currently, I think GTape -- which I believe is acrylic-based -- is compatible with AZEK. I even saw Dr.Decks using GTape with AZEK in one of his videos. If you find the definitive answer, PLEASE let me know.

I was told that there is a liquid version of this tape that you can roll on with a paint roller. It looks like tar but is rubber etc just like the tape. Is that true?

Henry 107 -$13.00 for 0.9 gallon. You can build the average deck with two pails (less than 2 gallons). I'm not being paid. I priced the tape and couldn't believe the price. The downside is that Henry 107 has to dry for 48 hours. Just plan ahead and work around it.
@MasaMuneDenadoro Жыл бұрын
Only problem with Henry 107 is it will make your deck smell like asphalt and tar. Especially in the hot summers. You want it to stink? Nope.
@StrongEye4 жыл бұрын
I don’t know, Timber does not recommend joist tape. The chemical reaction of the tape and planks will eventually break it down. Maybe they came up with something new. Check installation instructions
