this is precisely the reason why everything is so expensive these days. it is such an overkill... homeowners are paying $$$ for all these "positives". By the way, the ancient asian wood struetures had no nails or screws, and the columns are not even fixed to stone footings in any way - they just rest on them, and yet the structures could stand for hundreds of years.

I like the idea of an independent structure . If it has to be attached though, maybe laminate some plywood in there to fill the air gap

I’m not sure you can do that, at least we’ve never used an actual I-joist as a rim. They make rim stock for this application. Maybe a cheap ass builder doing this!

I know it’s a bit late, but I know the backstory. Hitachi powertools(Hitachi Koki) was part of the Hitachi group, until hitachi sold it to koki holdings, about the same time koki a acquired metabo. Because Hitachi koki was no longer part of the hitachi group, they had to drop the name Hitachi. In Europe, Asia, Australia and the rest of the world, it was renamed HiKOKI, and in north America metabo HPT ( metabo Hitachi Power tools) Also, my multivolt batteries do work on my all my old hitachi tools

I used the tape on my pressure treated southern pine joists. I used a few staples to keep the tape down for those boards in which the tape was having difficulty staying adhered to.

Have you tried the liquid flashing products ? I dunno cost of that comparison to your tape it is all pricey but I agree you have to put down something. Speak about the liquid flashing products ? The life of the tape seems questionable. For example regular duct tape last just a few months before deteriorating these flashing tapes have no history yet they have only just come out on the market

Great idea but none of those tapes stick to green PT pine. Lumber is always very wet due to chemicals infused. Unless one buys PT kiln dryed it wont stick. And kiln dryed PT lumber is quite expensive. 🤷‍♂️
@rickrudd

I would think that as long as it sticks until you get the decking in place, then you're good. The board will then keep it in place.

I use a primer on the wet wood the primer makes a huge difference to the adhesive abilities. The primer goes on the day before it takes several hours to dry enough to make it tacky. 5 gals of primer is $70 I just happen to use the Nadura primer only because i had it on hand. With no primer the peel n stick just falls off.
@splanzza
@splanzza 4 күн бұрын
@ I checked it out. Nudura is a polymer based type of primer and it is specifically meant for peel&stick tape. Quite similar to shower waterproofing liquid membranes. I will look into it if it is available in the US. 👍

Hi, I have in-lites installed in our deck and would like to piggy back a couple of LED bulbs off the transformer to illuminate two blow mold snowmen for the Christmas season. The Inlite fixtures are quite expensive and more directional than I would like. Do you have any experience/ recommendations with connecting none Inlite LEDs to the Inlite system. Thank you, Ron

In the process of building a 12x20'ish deck with all Trex Transcend decking, and Deckorators aluminum railing. Way overbuilt using all the correct fasteners, strong ties, joist tape and Thruloks...in only about $5k in materials. The secret? Clearance, facebook marketplace and coupons.
