Bit of good info there. Ive been through just about every turbo combo and a slightly bigger then oem is the best on the street with e85.

Great video and knowledge 👌. I did the ebay 19t's on my 08 535i and on e40 mix tune on 19lbs and drove it daily before.i did open up and used turbolabsofamerica kit except my v3's had a better collar i think it was (one with oil cutouts) and also put new oem actuators and debured edges. 10k on them and i don't drive hard but will do a freway pull here n there and play with others when given the chance. Installing lsd tomorrow and hoping to track friday. Its plenty fast on the freway and hope to make the deadline and see what it does in a straight line.

@Reggie_Kray693 жыл бұрын
two things, firstly recommending stock oem turbos is a terrible idea as they have the wastegate rattle problem and the second you wind them up they go out of their efficiency range and wear out very quickly, you can get stage 1 or just an upgraded oem turbo which holds the same power as stock but stronger wastegate and better reliability and cost just about the same as oem. second you are partly correct about single turbos in the uk as im uk based myself but there are company's that do offer them like leadfoot racing do a drive in drive out and walton motorsport do a rhd single turbo kit, plus all the company's in australia selling single turbo kits. other than that spot on info and great video buddy
@listerofsmeg803 жыл бұрын
I just meant from a driveability perspective, as they have instant power. Rhd kits will hopefully start to become more commonplace in future. 👍

@@listerofsmeg80 i totally agree but the stock oem turbos themselves arent good when you throw some boost at them in terms of longevity, id highly recommend basically a pimped out stock turbo with billet parts as the stockers are great up to 500 wheel with a cheeky ethanol blend, and everything is pretty simple below 500 wheel in terms of what you need hell even oem turbos will push that figure out but will last a few weeks lol

@@listerofsmeg80 also dont know if you know yet but dont use the burble settings in mhd it knackers your turbo
@stupoo272 жыл бұрын
@@Reggie_Kray69 the stock turbos are very reliable. That's why you see people running 22-24psi peak on them. I have run high boost on high mileage stocks for years. The abuse they take is crazy and far beyond what you will see aftermarket twins doing. If you keep them below 21 psi peak with FBO they will run all day long and wategate rattle wont come I until 60-70k. They are a great option for anyone who wants to maintain stock spool characteristics, keep within a decent budget and shoot for 450hp.

Intresting video buddy. Assume you saw Walton motorsport do a rhd single turbo manifold but obviously ££££.
@listerofsmeg804 жыл бұрын
Thats right, thats pretty much the only one that is currently available for rhd...its a shame as my previous car had a bw efr 7670 on it which would have been mega on this but the rest of it was just too expensive to justify. Then the blown turbos came up and all in with the rebuild theyve cost me 1k. So that will do for now!

@@listerofsmeg80 amazing value for money that. Any ideas where the Vargas stuff is made I’m aware there based the US but had heard they are manufactured in China much like the 17/19Ts, think it was through Vadar solutions actually. I’m similar thinking to you in that I dont mind spending more for quality like Pure or TTE etc. 17/19Ts just seem ‘you get what you pay for’.
@listerofsmeg804 жыл бұрын
@@h0d632 i think most of the twins you can find will be made in china or at least much of the components. Certainly anything < $1200. I think its why it was important to take them to local specialists who know what theyre doing. Turbo technics were the people that told me that these hybrids arent very efficient and i can see why absolutely. However we are very limited with space in these.

hey mate - what upgraded application do you think is best for 2013 Z4 35i MT RHD (mainly want to get rid of the WG rattle) car has 69k miles - i've done all supporting mods you mentioned bar outlets - I'm not after a lot of power cos it feels really responsive and quick, so target maybe up to 500... Cheers! and yes...i've done the usual WG rod fix on the rear turbo and managed to put spacers on the front turbo WG housing...still rattles !
@listerofsmeg803 жыл бұрын
hey, well in reality with a custom tune you probably wouldnt be too far off 500 crank hp by maxing out the oem turbos. Obviously the rattle is annoying. but the reality is that due to the way these engines work, i.e. wastegates are open at idle, there will always be the chance that they will rattle in the end. To get an easy 500, the 17t 'sized' turbos are what youd want. That said, having then rebuilt by professionals is probably the best advice if you did. There is a lot of misinformation out there and chances are most of the failures that the cheap turbos have will a lot of the time be down to poor fitment/prep.
@adrianbx3 жыл бұрын
@@listerofsmeg80 - right, so even a new set of 17Ts might rattle then...? Are they a straight swap anyway ? Because of steering column... and only support mod would then be LPFP and outlets...
@listerofsmeg803 жыл бұрын
@@adrianbx yes they could do, the pennys will always have a small amount of play, but some are better than others, its more the connection to the actuator rod that causes the rattle though, ones with less play there will rattle less. The steering column is a pain in the butt, when i did mine, i removed the whole subframe and took the steering rack off. It was a little more difficult to refit it, but ive had worse!! Doing that though means you can drop the whole engine down and access to the turbos in a LOT easier. Its a lengthy job though. LPFP will complete the picture yep :)

Hi! Just found this. I'm not sure if you've tried or not the 17T but I'm looking towards replacing my stock turbos on my 135i as the wastegate keeps getting stuck open. I don't want to have big big twins or single because I'm going to the track the car here and there. I won't even push more than 22psi as the power just won't be put down to the ground. My question is: have you tried them? What do you think about buying some eBay ones and simply have them checked and balanced? Do you think I'll get away with it? I can also refurbish my OEM turbos and hybrid them but the cost will be the same or even more. Thank you!
@listerofsmeg803 ай бұрын
@@FactionGreen i actually currently have some ebay 11blade 17ts on the car, they work pretty well. Currently making ~520hp at a very modest 20psi. So yeah if you get some and balance them, do it. Im going to treat these as a consumable as my car is track only so if they die after 1000 miles so be it as that will be more than enough for a season!

Hi mate im looking at a 335i with the idea of tracking it, have you had many problems with yours before and after doing the turbos?
@listerofsmeg803 жыл бұрын
Hey, ive not tracked it yet with the bigger turbos, but as long as youve addressed cooling then there shouldnt be too much of a problem. Maintenance seems to be key with these as they have a couple of weaker spots. Thankfully though, drivetrain isnt usually one of them.
