It’s crazy that I have been in homes that are literally not even ten years old and look much worse than this house. And some of these newer homes that aged like spoiled milk can actually be surprisingly pricey.

I agree. The house I'm in right now was built sometime this decade. Everything was made so cheap that the whole house seems to be falling apart.
@kgbeezr755 жыл бұрын
I know newer stuff often isn't made all that great, but a lot of this 70's construction wasn't stellar either. I think it's just different types of people treat their stuff very differently. You see it with cars too, some people buy a car and it looks new 10 years later, others are ready for the junk yard after 5 years. Different types of personalities. A lot of times people who didn't grow up with much learn to appreciate what they have that much more, and they understand how hard it can be to obtain, they take pride in it, which means taking care of it. Especially younger generations, they treat everything as if it's disposable, even $1000 phones. When it's trash throw it away and finance a new one. That's my take anyway and i'm not *that* old...

DSTY True, but if people routinely maintained their homes, like they do their cars, their homes would retain a lot of their beauty and integrity. But if you buy a home from a builder who cut lots of corners, it’s harder.

S L I agree. You do have to wonder what kind of people “lived” in this home? Anyone who’s this meticulous was either an absolute slave to their home with, probably, a serious OCD disorder, or didn’t have a family. As beautiful as it is, it’s hard to imagine being a happy home to live in.

Well, modern light fixtures are as ugly as sin and future generations will definitely say that, and paneling used right, still, can be awesome, even, today. Some of the wallpaper here, was less than attractive for how and where it was applied, while other wallpaper looked just fine, overall. Same goes for some of the curtains, as well. In the end, it's all, a matter of taste, it's all, relative, so there's really, no right or wrong, as such. I think modern designs, overall, are as bland, dead, dry and boring as anything, and certainly, AS, ugly as anything that has come before it, and I assure you, future generations will definitely, agree with this. Man! I found myself watching this video and was waiting to see something unusual. It all looked totally normal to me! Heh heh... I’m 58 years old and most of the houses I was in as a tween (early 70s) looked just like this. I grew up 100% white-bread Mid-American. I had several paper routes between 12-16 years old. Back then we were owner-operator young businessmen and had to go house to house collecting the $2.75 per month for the local paper. Because of this I was in literally dozens of homes that looked very similar to the one in the video every month. This could be any one of those homes! It still looks normal to me. Today, our home looks very similar. Finally, the icing on the cake was the dryer... I’m still using the very same model in our laundry room! Luckily, I’m handy with tools and can keep most things running. I bought our dryer used for 25 bucks in 1987. It still drys perfectly! Thanks for this :)

the BEST thing about these intact, untouched original homes? you can tell if there is any damage from water because the ceiling will be stained, along with damage to wood around windows and any water damage to basement. when everything is intact and unblemished, you know you have a well built and maintained homed. many people don't realize that updates often happen to repair or disguise/ cover up damage.
