This was a problem for disk-based consoles. The timer kept running, even while moving to the next scene. So if you were unlucky to have either a damaged console/disk, you'd essentially lose because the game couldn't read the ques to move to the next area and allow you to shoot. I should know because this was my experience with a used copy that was gifted to me.

I remember this to be the first ever game I tried on the arcade when I was a kid. Back then, I was terrified of Wild Dog coz of his near 100% accuracy and surprise attacks.

I'll tell you what: if you have an arcade fighting stick, plug it in the 2nd controller slot with the gun in the first slot, and use that in case you don't have a foot pedal for ducking and reloading. Damn this game is so much more fun to play that way.

Hey this is a bit random, but how did you manage to record this footage with the Guncon? Just wondering because I'd like to do a video on it myself but can't figure out best way to record it.

For this, I used a Dazzle recorder. It's an older capture card that can only record at 30fps, but as TC1 runs at 30fps anyway it doesn't matter. The quality isn't exactly the greatest though, but I'm not sure how to make it look any better as you can't use the older Guncons on HD TVs. I got your email too but I'll just respond here.

Fucking hell watching this takes me back. I remember being super young and playing this game, I was too short to be able to aim at the TV at a good angle, so what I used to do was stand on a foot-cushion so that I was level with the TV, up close so that I could actually aim the light-gun accurately. I also remember pressing the gun right up to the screen to make sure I was calibrated properly. I miss my childhood, those were simpler times.

This game was awesome, if they were to port this game onto other 32 bit platforms, I think it would also work on a sega saturn with those kinds of graphics.

No cheats. I played this game via my PS2's backwards compatibility and used a Guncon lightgun. I own the Japanese boxset version which includes the game and lightgun together.

Legit. The only cheats in this game include unlimited ammo (where you can shoot as many times as you want without reloading), unlimited lives (outside of Time Attack), enemy attacks deal no damage, always add 5 seconds for each enemy killed, or reset time to 60 seconds after getting hit once (this was before Time Crisis II came out).
