We appreciate all of your advice and support in relation to purchasing a house! However, many of you are concerned that we are being scammed or doing something 'immoral' for some very strange reasoning. You should all know if you watch our videos that we do our research. We put in a lot of effort into learning things, and are very confident in our ability to know a good deal when we see one. All parties involved are trustworthy family members, and we are very happy to finally have an opportunity like this one. We have not shared with you all the specifics of the situation, to allow people to remain anonymous, so likely many of you think you know better than us what is the right and wrong thing to do. Please all feel free to share your opinions and thoughts below, but rest assured we have spoken to professionals on the matter as well as being confident in our own abilities to make life choices. All the best, Brynn and Jade xx

I'm in the same boat (excuse the pun)! I've got a lump of cash coming and the opportunity to throw it at at a house in England or buy a boat and sail about with my dog. Spent 10 years travelling and had no intention of brick and mortar in england but came home just before the plague hit and i ended up keeping the dog i was fostering while home and getting stuck in a rut... All pals have had kids now so whatever i choose will be a solo decision. Interested to see what yous decide to do, might even end up taking talisman off your hands lol! Good luck, keep us posted

I've been watching your Mediterranean journey and haven't actually left a comment yet (although I think I gave a like👍 to every video). I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your videos and also appreciate the non-use of foul language. I've seen a few other KZbin Sailing channels where they talk a little too much like a sailor lol. I truly hope you're able to continue your sailing journeys in the future!.... Oh yeah, I love the accents too! We Americans are too boring sounding lol

In my experience there is always hidden traps in houses that seem a bargain at first. Don't take other people's / companies opinions. The market in the UK is precarious at the moment, it was going up early this year, but now it is declining and we won't know for how long until we know how far the predicted recession will drag house prices down into next year and beyond. Hold tight and enjoy the freedom of your boat for now. I do envy you two just sitting in that cafe drinking coffee in the dappled light of the sun 🌲🌳🌴 :-)

Sometimes ya gotta take a short term hit for a better long term future. If it's a legit opportunity then it's a no brainer from a financial point of view. Boats lose money, UK houses broadly go up.

My question would be are you ABSOLUTELY SURE it’s not a scam? And if you want a house there are places in Italy Sardinia and elsewhere where you can buy a house for one Euro. Because the villages are depopulated. Far nicer place to live than the U.K.
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
It's called right to buy, very well known and safe. Plus as we said in the vid - its not a house we're planning to live in :) it's purely to accrue some reliable passive income. We still have lots more travel and adventures we want to do so not looking to buy a house for ourselves to settle in just yet :) if we did it defo wouldn't be the UK!
@Sailing_Antrice2 жыл бұрын
@@ChasingCurrents ok got it! What I was worried about is that the UK land registry is open to scammers. So there is some really dodgy housing scams out there. But you are all 👍🏻
@Sailing_Antrice2 жыл бұрын
I let my house and I have a boat but I left it far too late in life. Sail while you are young the waves get higher as you get older. Also don’t forget that taxes take 20% of your income and you need to save for repairs and letting a house requires up to date electrics, a yearly gas survey and repairs can eat up all your income. It was almost 2 years before I had paid off the costs of getting a clean modern house up together with the regulations and don’t forget the Government are thinking about giving renters the right to buy.
@arthur48182 жыл бұрын
Never buy with someone else, a year down the road the house may need more that you thought, they may want out then what are you going to do, you lose your boat and all your money
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
The house doesn't need anything, it's a relatives council house on a right to buy scheme :) if you have a look online you'll see it's a simple and common process here in the UK. They will be continuing to live there so they won't want out 👍
@emmamacbeth23002 жыл бұрын
@@ChasingCurrents You can’t buy a relative’s council house. Only your relative can buy it. If you plan to buy their house and then rent it out, that’s illegal, as well as immoral.
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
@@emmamacbeth2300 With all due respect I don't think youve done your research on the scheme, as you definitely can. Not sure what you think is immoral about a joint application of 50/50 split? I think you need to do a little more research - here you go www.ownyourhome.gov.uk/scheme/right-to-buy/eligibility/#:~:text=Making%20a%20joint%20application&text=Someone%20who%20shares%20your%20tenancy,must%20be%20their%20main%20home

@@ChasingCurrents I see below, you’ve explained you intend to live there for 12 months to get round it. But however you intend to turn a council house into “passive income”, depleting desperately needed social housing stock for your own financial gain is wrong. Yes, you didn’t invent RTB and you certainly aren’t the only people taking advantage, but that doesn’t make it right.
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
@@emmamacbeth2300 @Emma Macbeth I think you're being very judgmental without knowing all the facts. We don't really have to respond and clarify our own personal situations on KZbin but we will to put your mind at rest! 1.those living there cannot afford to buy the house they've been living in for over 30 years without going halves with us. 2. If they have the right to buy the house anyway, why suddenly is it immoral to own a house? Why does it matter if we are helping them with half the payment and therefore receiving half of the money back? You do know that a private landlord would have the right to buy if we didn't, therefore hiking up the rent prices as they wish. We literally are just looking for just enough money to live on, we aren't greedy. You're welcome to your opinions but we won't respond anymore on this topic. We and those involved are happy with the decisions. Anyone that knows us knows we are the complete opposite of immoral, you dont know us. All the best though, take care

Re: Right to buy. How will you derive income from the right to buy council property? 1)You're not allowed to sell for 5 years after purchase.2) If the purchase is for a family member and that member is claiming benefits and intends to pay you as the potential landlord this will be benefit fraud. 3) If no benefits are being claimed where's the benefit to both parties? 4) And most importantly is you and other investors are not allowed to make a joint purchase of a council property unless you have lived there as a family member for more than 12 months. Which clearly you have not.
@ChasingCurrents2 жыл бұрын
With all due respect, we are well aware of all the ins and outs and have done enough research to know what we're doing. But to answer your questions, obviously we aren't commiting benefit fraud they aren't on benefits. The benefit to both parties is that we will both own 50% of a high valued house which has a 50% discount on the purchase price. And we will have lived there for 12 months when the process is done. You can trust we understand enough about it, we have mortgage advisors, people that have done this before in our family. There are lots of ways we envision that this could help us for our futures, but we do appreciate the concern 👍
