In the spring of 2022, she moved with her partner and son from her native Netherlands to the North of Norway. Between tall mountains, long rivers, and endless forests, she quickly learned living in nature is both hard work and awe-inspiring.
For Carmijn, Red Leaf Hill is as much about sharing as it is expressing, through her own means and by seeking out collaborators who travel a similar wavelength. On her KZbin channel, she’s garnered a steady following in her journeys across the Norwegian wilderness. To be an open book, where struggle, joy, fear, and courage are laid bare for all to see. Your determination to take on a Re-Model of your home and stay with the project through all the difficulties has to be admired, you are true pioneers. This type of project would try one's patience if you chose to live much further south in Norway but you want to live where there is winter type temperatures 7 or 8 months of the year. I have enjoyed watching you and your beautiful family building this wonderful Norwegian Homestead. My mother was born in Ase and I had the most wonderful trip in my life to have the opportunity to travel with her to her family home and visit with relatives. She is now almost 102 years young. I live in rural NE VT… no garbage pick up here unless you are on a paved road… and then it is way too expensive… most of us just haul our own. So I was surprised to see a garbage can at the road.

I hope you can put in gardens and develop rich soil, perhaps a greenhouse too since you are so far north. Maybe a cow, goats, pigs etc. in the future too… all these things make a home into a homestead, and contribute to your personal resiliency.

Get a scythe.. I can use one now quite efficiently to cut the grass which I rake up and use in the garden too. Plus it makes such a nice swoosh sound when you are cutting in a nice rhythm.
