If you’re ever at Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam) you could go to an Art Exhibit with masterpieces, among MANY other activities. All without leaving the airport. It’s one of my favorite layover spots!

Transit or waiting in Changi Airport is on another level. Alot of things we can do or just sleep with comfortable chair that available everywhere. It is not like majofity airports in western.

My mom was a air operations officer and her rule of thumb was to make me be there like 2hrs earlier(I flew alone) and I’m used to it so now as an adult I get there, look for my gate, pick a spot on the floor and use my backpack as a bean chair and sit down to draw on my tablet lmao. (If I’ve got extra money I will buy myself a snack or food)

I've been flying since I was a child (split custody with parents in different states) so I have that 1-2 hours depending on the size of the airport engraved in my bones lol. You never go to the airport without some form of entertainment. My choice is usually a book or a notebook to write or draw in.

Finding a place to sit can kill another 10mins as keep hoping for different gates till you see yours. Try to read the newspaper for another 10-15mins. Charge your phone while watching some videos for another 30-40mins. Now when you look at the time you know you didn't rest at all and once you inside her fight you'll dooze off sooner than later.

When i last went to USA, my layover was 10 hours overnight... arrived at Qatar at 10pm flight was 8am. No lounge purchase whatsoever. It was hard but thankfully Qatar airport is still pretty lively. I spent the first 1-2 hours just walking all over the airport and explore. My goal was to look for affordable food as well as a place to do number 2 in peace (i had 6 hours flight before then). I wanted a restaurant with decent food to cheer me up but also a place where i can do some work with my laptop. I found a quiet restaurant with cushy benches. Ate some kebab (i think?). Did alme work but was so sleepy so i lie on the cushion for a bit. After then i walked to find one of those free shared lounges. Stay there for a bit. Was very sleepy and tempted to sleep but because i was travelling alone, i worried il overslept and i wasnt sure whats the rule for alarm in this shared lounge. So stayed a bit to do work then got too sleepy and left to find coffee. Grab coffee and did more work... quite productive then resumed window shopping and found an area i havent explored (but they sell the same souvenirs stuff so nothing new but explored anyway). By then i have like 3-4 hours left i believe so i headed straight to my empty terminal and did more work on the floor. For some reason, i felt more energize kn this position and basically stayed there until boarding

Some other suggestions: - compare nutritional facts before buying a soda - survey all the bathrooms and find the most coziest and the least crowded - chat with someone that has the same nationality as you (works better in a transit hub airport) - explore every bit of floor of the transit area - if you have a travel friend, play a guessing game whenever you guys hear a foreign language

I remember going through Changi airport as a 10yo with my parents and even though we were so jet-lagged we spent hours walking around. This was probably around 2010 but they had huge floral arrangements everywhere, like 6 different beautiful carpets covering the whole floor and an actual indoor garden with a massive koi pond. It was amazing, most airports are so cold and uncomfortable

I've got PTSD from an airport lounge recently. So I got there 8 hours before my flight and they say I can't come in until 4 hours before. I say no problem and wonder if I could get a bottle of water because I have no cash. She happily gets it but comes back with a depressed look so I say sorry again and she sarcastically says ok. Later she say me walking back and gives one of those annoyed looks to her colleague into the lounge reception. Later I hear her gossiping about me in their language and then saying "city I mentioned, no cash, storyyyyyyy" I really was confused why explaining my reason of having no money left from the foreign city was wrong. I didn't want to spend 8 hours in the lounge but would have been fine grabbing some food that I paid for and going on my way. Wasn't demanding either just curious if I could have some water lol. I had even said sorry for over explaining when she did that funny look while exiting the passengers out of the lounge for the earlier flight but still the gossip after was weird.
