I've always felt that having your lamps trimmed means to be prepared and ready for whenever they're next needed. Doing this will help to keep things from becoming chaotic if the lamps are needed unexpectedly and everything will progress much smoother.

I really like how you point out the lamps trimmed, therefore being ready for "whenever they're next needed" and how that avoids chaos. Such an insight!

@FamiliesInTheMillennium I feel that we need to keep order in our lives and help keep order in the lives of others as best we can because our God, Heavenly Father, is a God of order. This allows no room for chaos.

For anyone that doesn't yet have the experience, I'd like to add my testimony that setting a minimum duration time for praying is a great practice. It completely changes the way you think about praying, and lets you really relax and open yourself up to listening for what He wants you to pray and so on.
@Linda_James26 күн бұрын
I love her suggestion. I love my Heavenly Father and I find it hard to pray to Him. I think that the reason that may be is because we our taught to talk to our Father with the language and words that come from respect for a god of heaven. And they just never feel personal enough for me. I understand those type of prayers for meetings and such but I like her idea of setting aside a specific amount of time each day to speak to my Father. It’s interesting that I found this video because just today I was wondering why I don’t have the urge to pray to my Father. I really think it has to do with thinking it has to be a “formal” prayer instead of “checking in” to let my Father know how I’m doing. Thank you 🙏🏼 ❤

@@Linda_JamesI am feeling a similar way to what you are explaining. I struggle so much. I feel like such an idiot when I pray. It makes me so sad. I am trying but I feel like a prayer failure when I pray for myself. Or just try to talk to Him. I am trying. So I just drown out my feelings with listening to channels like this. Maybe we can say Dear Heavenly Father when we start to listen and then when the video is done end your time with the video with In the Name of Jesus Christ Amen. That thought just popped into my head. I think I shall try that this week. ❤

@@Linda_James I struggled with the language issue myself. President Oaks gave an explanation about it that helped me with the fact that the language we're told to use in prayer is really the informal language, not the formal, as so many people like to insist. However, as a result of pushing myself consciously to use the recommended language, I've found that now I'm much more comfortable with it.

if you don’t feel like praying--pay more! Like as President Nelson has said--if you don’t like going to the Temple,go more often!
@becomingrichthroughjesuschrist27 күн бұрын
I think President Nelson's talk is the cry that went up, "Behold, the bridegroom cometh, go ye out to meet him." If we line up the timeline of the parable with our own timeline, I think we are definitely in verse 7, where it says that they arose and trimmed their lamps. Then President Nelson says to go to the temple. In Malachi 3:1, it says... "and the Lord whom ye seek shall suddenly come to his temple." So when President Nelson says now is the time to prepare for the Second Coming, I think that's the cry. Wake up, trim your lamps, and go out to meet him. And even though I know he will be coming to all in the clouds of glory, he's also going to be coming to his temples. Trim your lamps and go out to meet him in the temple. Just a thought.

Trimming an oil lamp's wick refers to the task of maintaining a clean and bright flame by cutting the wick so that it draws oil from the reservoir. I think that means that I need to be aware of and intentional in my daily, spiritual practices. Meaning that I should not become casual or the wick may stop drawing energy from its source. I’m new to your channel today and grateful for your spiritual insights and guidance!!

I looked online to see how people trim lamps and it had a lot of meaning to it for me. It said that trimming a lamp was a lost art. Now. I think most of the world world has lost the art of communing with God. It also said that when you see that the top of the wick is burning on one side more than the other or is it regular? That is when it needs to be trimmed. That says to me that when we can see we're getting off the covenant path that we know we need to be trimmed or to trim ourselves. Also the wick needs to be straight across the top to burn properly. That means to me that there is a straight and narrowed road to find God. When the wick is is cut straight there is more light to be seen and less smoke. When we allow ourselves to be trimmed, We give more light and can see more light. I think about the smoke as Satan's ploys to keep us from the light. And washing the glass that's on top of the lamp is like repentance so we can see more clearly and be guided by the spirit. I thought it was interesting that they said that you need to cut the top two corners off the wick because the outside of the wick gets more of the oil from the lamp and the term they used when you didn't do this was that you would get " devil's points" And the rest of the wick would be in a weird shape. Isn't that interesting? I think this is something to ponder. We do need to keep our lamps trimmed! I'm so glad that you brought this up so that I would have this knowledge about trimming lamps and how it applies to our salvation and readiness for the Savior!

I heard somewhere that the Lord will appear to His people before he appears to the world. I remember the dedication of the Nauvoo temple, when Stake centers around the world were turned into temporary temples to enable many to participate in the dedication. A temple recommend was required to enter. My thought is that we represent the ten virgins and the oil in our lamps represents the temple recommend that we will need to enter a similar event in designated Stake Centers around the world when the Lord appears to His people.

What I thought of with having our lamps trimmed would be like having our spiritual life in order. So often I get caught up in the day to day things, and I find a day or even two has gone by and I haven't prayed as deeply as I want to, or I haven't studied the scriptures the way I'd like, or I missed reading a conference talk. DOING these things adds oil to our lamps. But I feel that the consistency is what makes our lamps trimmed and ready.

Dear sister, you have missed something.. If you read the JST for Matthew 24--which is Joseph Smith-Matthew 1:22 in the Pearl of Great Price, you will come away with a slightly different understanding of Matthew 24: 24. Joseph did not include the word "were" when he clarified the Lord's intent in JST Matthew 1:22.. (1:22 "For in those days there shall also arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch, that, if possible, they shall deceive the very elect, who are the elect according to the covenant.") The sense we are left with is that there will be some of the elect for whom it will be possible to be deceived and yet, others will not. Keep in mind the elect are all those who have made covenants with God, not just leaders. Thinking that we are so faithful that we are above being deceived actually makes us all the more vulnerable to satan's counterfeits and deceptions. (Think Chad Daybell & Lori Vallow, for example.) There are, even now, many of our brothers and sisters who are jumping from the good ship Zion because they have been deceived by the evils and designs of conspiring men.

I wonder if some elect are deceived because they are so ultra-tolerant, loving & accepting that they change this verse: "Now they, after being sanctified by the Holy Ghost, having their garments made white, being pure and spotless before God, could not look upon sin save it were with abhorrence..." They change this into: [They] could not look upon sin save it were with [tolerance, diversity, inclusion, equity (d.i.e.)]..." - Alma 13:12
