Nothing you do is halfway done, not even designing a scrap quilt. This has to be the most beautiful scrap quilt I have ever seen. I don't know why but it made me tear up watching the video. It is so powerful. The music takes us through the entire life of this quilt from conception to creation to it's beginning of quilt life laying in all it's spender on the floor. Just gorgeous. I was taught to always iron after squaring blocks . People don"t do it so thank u for doing it. Nothing looks better when u use scraps . U feel like look what I got from a box of scraps. Beauty that's what!

When I was 13, I lost my BigMama, my grandmother. She taught me so much till I was about 10. She got sick and was diagnosed with lung cancer, although she had never smoked. While she was in the hospital, on and off during those three years, I didn’t know it but she had made all of her grandchildren a quilt top. Their were 5 grandkids. My quilt top was a Dutch girl pattern. She had taken her old dresses to made the pieces and each one of those pieces i remembered her wearing the dress. Over the years I never knew anyone who could quilt or anyone I guess I would trust my quilt with. My Mom and my husband got together on my 30th birthday and had gotten my great aunt to quilt it for me. Aunt Maryann was probably my second favorite person in the world but i just couldn’t imagine asking her to quilt it for me. She was in her 80’s. But little did I know. She’s was not only capable to quilt my precious gift from my grandmother but she embroidered the words on the bottom right corner, to Vickie from BigMama. Never in my life had I been so happy to receive a gift. It was a total surprise so i was really caught off guard. I cried tears of joy and tears of grief at the same moment. I just want these two wonderful women to know how much I loved them for my gift. Since then Aunt Maryann has passed away as well. But I have a beautiful memory of these two precious women with me all the time. My quilt of dresses my BigMama wore. I’m not sure why I wrote all this but just watching the work and love you put into your beautiful quilt made me realize how much my BigMama worked on these for us all. BTW both of the amazing women sewed each of their part by hand. No sewing machine to make the work go faster. It is pretty amazing to think of that. Thanks for sharing your video. P.S. This is what I call a "Zen Quilt". There is no difficult/super accurate cutting, piecing or sewing involved; just a rhythmic process that is almost meditative. We need these moments during these super crazy times! It is a soothing process that allows us to connect with fabric & stitching, and we know the end product will be gorgeous and very useful particularly during the cold months - scrappy utility quilts are fab to own. Don't get me wrong, I love all quilts, but this kind of quilt is a work of art in its own right. It always amazes me how a ton of scraps can produce such a highly valued quilt! Tiffany, keep on quilting, and we all will keep on watching, learning and stitching. Big Hugs & Many Thanks 🌻
