Pulling orders, running the bobcats and loading customers with trees and bulk materials. Loading trucks for deliveries, and way more to even begin to explain. The place would be nothing without me (and I’m not trying to be cocky at all) and they’re paying other people way more. I’m practically a foreman, I have 6 kids that report to me, and $11 an hour isn’t cutting it especially when I’m working 10-12 hour days, 6 days a week. Good hours and overtime but I have no time for a social life. I get that I’m 17, and they can pay me whatever they want, but when I do way more than the grown adults there, I know my worth and feel that I deserve more. Interesting. Here in Europe almost nobody has asphalted their driveway. We use mostly concrete blocks in a variety of shapes and colors so you can basically have a simple design or create a piece of art. Choice is yours and there are alsmost unlimited options to choose from. The main benefits are one - it holds up many decades before it even shows signs of age and when it does you just wash it off with a pressure washer and they are all like new again (except you ordered a specific color that bleached out but you can apply paint and get it back to day one again) and two - if you change your mind you can always sell whatever you got left when lifting the blocks and replace them with new ones and three - in bright summer daylight you don't smell anything. Asphalt will always leak odours and not really healthy fumes while concrete is just that. No matter the temperature. A side benefit - if you manage do damage a few of them you simply replace them one by one and you are done. Recycling is not a problem. If you don't plan on selling you can turn them in at your local disposal place and they get back into the system so one day they will become something new again. No hate here, just telling about some other place how it works :)

@VC-Toronto7 жыл бұрын
Likely leftover cold mixture from the previous day's work. It goes along with the torn up material to be ground up, heated, and then relaid as new asphalt. (asphalt is about 90-95% granular material, and about 5-10% asphalt "goo", and is almost 100% recyclable into new paving surface)

MrTemjin asphalt is made up of dried aggregate and oil. they get mixed while neing just over 300 degrees. theres a couple different classes of it depending on aggregate size. thats all it is. i could explain it all but will give you the very short version.
@973motoguy87 жыл бұрын
Vern C thats not all true. id say asphalt is about 30% recycled, and the "goo" is called tack. pretty much just tar. recycled asphalt dosent last long. i pave highways not driveways like these guys. lol
@VC-Toronto7 жыл бұрын
973 motooguy - The "goo" is bitumen. The term asphalt is another term for bitumen, but "asphalt" is commonly used as the term for the finished road surface comprised of granular material and bitumen. To be correct, the term that should be used is asphalt concrete. I'm not sure what you mean by "about 30% recycled". I've copied a reference from Wickipedia below. According to industry surveys conducted annually by the Federal Highway Administration and the National Asphalt Pavement Association, more than 99% of the asphalt removed each year from road surfaces during widening and resurfacing projects is reused as part of new pavements, roadbeds, shoulders and embankments

I read a article about 30 years ago, about how they can prevent black ice by switching steam rollers to rubber trax, they say the rollers cause micro cracks under the top layer of the asphalt which allows water to seep into and be trapped and turn into ice, hence the BLACK ICE. But with the rubber trax across the rollers, it didnt create any cracks at all, the roller they used somehow had the rubber setup like a tank track. and it worked flawlessly. I think it was Popular Mechanics.

@@MikeMikewaz How is this guy an ASSHOLE because he spends HIS MONEY the way HE WANTS!!!! Instead of being jealous and bitching about someone who has worked for what he has, how about you get off your ass and EARN A NEW DRIVEWAY YOURSELF!!! What a FUCKTARD you are!!!!

0:02 the old driveway was smooth and crack free. Why redo it?

Ye, got this video recommended as well. I dont get the point of renewing it. The old driveway looked good as well.

You can see their "FULL COMMITMENT TO A QUALITY JOB" in their actions when at 0.58 THEY THREW their trash (cups and drink holder) on your driveway, then it was scooped it up and mixed it into the asphalt they hauled off.

That stuff was dust or thrown away after they were done with it. Use a little common sense or go work construction for a year. People like you wouldn't last in the business for a month lol.

Why not concrete? it lasts much longer than asphalt.
@danielkustra90716 жыл бұрын
Concrete costs twice or three times as much as that and its higher maintenance. Not to mention concrete cracks easier than asphalt and could look shitty if it isn't done properly. A lot more foundation work

My Dad was a Seabee in the U.S. Navy and was in charge of an asphalt plant at the nearby base. Many an evening was spent by me as a teenager chiseling the stuck asphalt off Dad's boots before giving them a good shine. Now whenever I smell hot asphalt I think of those days.
@petermeyer68735 жыл бұрын
wow, a new perfect asphalt driveway replaced an old allmost perfect one, whilst the concrete part will last forever since it even can withstand the weight of the flattener without cracking on the edge
