The course is divided into 5 Modules: Introduction, Blocking-In, Structuring the Features, Keying the Drawing and Modeling Form. Each unit is sub-divided into specific "lessons" that unfold sequentially as the drawing develops. Key concepts are raised and re-visited as they become relevant during the demo, while David draws and talks through his decisions in real time.
The online course features:
• 26 distinct lessons
• 10 hours of video: nearly every pencil stroke is recorded
• A complete start-to-finish portrait demonstration
• Diagrams and animations to illustrate key concepts
• A thorough discussion of drawing materials and their uses
• Detailed supporting documentation
• Question & Answer forum on each lesson page
• Optional one-on-one personal critique service available for students (additional charge)
This offering from Vitruvian Studio is unique among portrait drawing courses online. The length and breadth of the presentation is currently unmatched by any other online class -- and is well over 3 times longer than even the heftiest instructional DVD set on the market. Add to this the wealth of supporting documentation and discussion threads throughout the course, and it's clear that Portrait Drawing -- The Online Course is the best value in drawing instruction available on the internet.

Sharp pencils are a good thing! A sharp point will get into the grain of the paper in a way that a dull point won't. Practice "hatching", and make the lines as close together as you can. The goal is to create hatching passages where lines are so close together that they look like continuous tone.

May I ask, what are you doing at the beginning when you're sketching out her face. You're holding your arm with the pencil in your hand as if you're measuring something, you do It a lot how does that measuring technique work?
@MtotheAtotheJtotheA
@MtotheAtotheJtotheA 9 жыл бұрын
It helps get the proportions right, I think. Like roughly the nose is, for example, as wide as the subjects eye, or the ear is as long as the forehead. He may use the pencil to help him figure out and "measure" the length and sizes of different features. That's what I do.

All these years I have been doing graphite art using one pencil grade. I always got frustrated when doing the eyes. The pupils would shine due to the amount of pencil work, and I never used white pencil or paint for highlights. Watching you use all these tools has made it so bloody obvious, and a million times more simple yet effective. Cheers.

I'll be honest. This picture was not as good as the first. When i´m looking it ready, and look the girl, gives the impression of a slight "flattening" nose-up, and a slight "stretching" of the mouth down. But still, it's hard to find someone with as much skill to draw like that. Congratulations.

You go from verry hard/visible lines in the beginning to draw up the structure of the face, all of a sudden you smear the paper before you start the shading and the hole thing becomes more Invisible/ghost like. Are you using an kneaded eraser there ?

Mr. jameson on his website promote a drawing of nature when comparing the photo there Errors that are observed in the proportions of the drawing: 1 ° the eye on the right has to be a little more to the right. 2 ° the ear is very large with respect to the photo. 3 ° the mouth has to be a little lower. For someone who took more than 2 hours to take measures to draw and collect 125 dollars in a course .... this should draw attention. Be more careful next time

You know what really bothers me? Videos such as your lack the views it deserves. My videos have the same issue. Users such as theportraitart get all the fame. Which is sad because that artist, or lack there of, doesn't even measure what's needed to get things into proportion. And even worse, his fan base will support him and buy his artwork. His story is that he just suddenly tried drawing one day and started uploading...imagine that...about as bad as people buying into religion. This generation

This is a beautiful piece of work and the rendering is almost perfect (only because I don't think we can reach perfection). Just one criticism though, the right eye is bigger than the left, given that it's further away it should be ever so slightly smaller and it does make her look odd.
