Mickey is the most amazing human being. I met him briefly by coincidence in Hollywood. We happened to like the same Cuban Restaurant..He was really humble and I did not want to leave our meeting...that is how addicting he is...

I met Mickey Rourke about 5 years ago in a resturant on the Sunset Strip. He was so nice, so gracious, even as I was acting like a fool, gushing about how great he was. What a class act. I've been a fan for 25 years and shit, I always will be.

"The Wrestler" blew me away. I've watched thousands of movies but I've never seen a performance that was so accomplished on so many levels - physical and emotional. After I saw Rourke in "Sin City" I realized he had more charisma and talent than any other actor out there, but I still wasn't prepared for "The Wrestler". Thank God ,Rourke had a chance to show what he can do and that an audience can see him as sympathetic. He's probably now the most sympathetic actor alive - and the most edgy.

Nobel of Mickey to be so open regarding his past. I'd love to have a beer with the bloke! He's a good guy, but he a demon actor! Superior.

When she asked him if he's the same guy he was 25 years ago, I'm surprised at his brutal honesty that he says he doesn't look the same, talk the same, or sound the same, which is all true. At least he's not in denial and can admit it.

got his PR going as probably was trained. it's still difficult to believe he doesn't despise the hollywood crowd and aura. apparently, after such a downfall, he realized he had to come back to the only one thing he's got left and can be great at i.e. acting. can't wait for his next leading role performance!

I'm sure one of the things he regrets most is the plastic surgery. The glasses, the make-up, the nervous way he touches his face, adjusts things, etc. It's a classic appearance of physical insecurity, and it's really, really sad, b/c you can tell that, as a person, and on the inside, he is a great and well-developed person. He's had a lot of bumps and learned from them greatly. And yet, it would be nearly impossible not to feel self conscious about the surgery results. :(

In real life, Mickey Rourke is a VERY shy person. He is just really nervous. There is no need to over-analyze his performance in this interview. Leave him alone.

Only Mickey Rourke could have done The Wrestler.. it's almost exactly parallels his own life.. everyone did well in this film, and given it was such a low budget, it was a grand accomplishment. Rourke said this is story of all those athletes who do not make it and the struggles they live.. as he said, it does not always end in victory like the movie character Rocky..
@willp4695

He did great in Iron Man 2 also... gave the villain a lot more dimension than a Marvel story would generally have given them... it was his idea to visit a Russian prison and get the attitude for the character..

A fine actor, gentleman, animal lover.I am very pleased to watch and listen to him not playing the blame game but taking responsibility for mistakes he made early on. I am in total agreement in reference to Eric Roberts, a fine actor, being looked over as other actors work who couldnt shine his shoes. Have a good life from now on Mr. Rourke!

Same old questions across the board, every interview I've seen. So much more to this man than meets the eye. Would be thrilled to hear he's written another screenplay; especially at this time in his life, perspective-wise (2017, not 2008, when this interview was done). I completely agree with the fact that this isn't a "comeback." He's not "coming back" as the same person he was in his previous career timeline; far from it, actually. Keep on interviewing, Mr. Rourke, regardless of "current work." I for one would like you to stay and chat awhile. ;) {@}

Interesting observations, MauriceFlower, I agree with you. His attire also suggests the same, especially his eyeware, and the fact he's wearing glasses at all. He's seen a bit of life and the repercussions of previous choices, which he mentions even. He mentions also that he burns a lot of bridges, he's growing up, becoming more mindful of others. It's never too late to surrender. Humble pie can taste delicious. Some folks never get to taste it for their stifling pride. It's nice to see.

@ParadiseOnLand perhaps you should watch "9 1/2 Weeks" and/or "Wild Orchid." He's f'in gorgeous in both those movies ... not to say he's not attractive now, but in those previous movies, his looks were, shall I say, more chiseled, less rugged.

Hi, Mr. Rourke. I saw your new movie, "The Wrestler" and your interview on Larry King. I thought you were fantastic! I certainly hope you recieve an academy award for the movie. I sense that your ability to play the part so well is due to the fact that you shared aspects of life's trials and tribulations as the movie character which made the portrayal authentic. Too bad you let Russell Crowe win Oscar(s) for part you could have won years ago---trust your instincts---Good Luck and God Bless.

In the 80s I use to wait for Mickeys film with baited breath,He is one hell of an actor but unfortunatly he managed to talk his way out of his career.Apartvfrom pissing De Nero off and turning up late generally being a pain in the ass for all and sundry in the industry he managed to cut short what in sure would have been a great career.We will never know what he could have done.And that's a fucking shame.

The only reason Sean Penn won the Oscar over Mickey's performance is because the Academy was scared to piss off the gay community like they did when they awarded Crash Best Picture years earlier. Harvey Milk is a respected figure in the gay community. The Oscars are too political. As long as fans know that Mickey was the better man that year, that's what really counts.

It s very seldom you see someone who is touching ones face as much as Rourke does in this interview. He is all over with his hands; lips, chin, cheek, nose, eyes. Several times he is holding his hand over his mouth. This body-language tells something about him beeing unsertain in some sense. Its like he is covering up, or being unsure, or not saying the truth, or having problems expressing what he really need to express. This is unmanful! And he is mumbling when speaking! An actor??...
