"Regular Guy" Guardsman here from an IBCT. I don't understand how 19th and 20th can possibly maintain their METL year to year. Like, how do these guys possibly keep their readiness and proficiency with just 48 or 56 MUTAs and still have civilian careers? Or do they just go on and off ADOS orders all the time?

My buddy is a guard 18D, dude spends half the year just maintaining CEU's and certifications, let alone attending FMP's and shit. Its not really a part-time gig.

That's the thing, and I wish more guard leaders understand how METL proficiency works. 1) You're not required to satisfy all DA directed METs annually. Commanders can choose which 1 or 2 METs to focus on in any given year, as long as they progress to their ready window. 2) Leaders are not required to aggregate Supporting Collective Tasks to determine METL proficiency. Leaders can assess their units' proficiency and use SCTs as a guide, but they are not required to demonstrate proficiency. I see many guard units trying to do too much every year when solid application of training readiness doctrine would ease their burden. Also, NG SOF receives additional funding for ATs which can extend their AT (3-4 weeks, vs standard 2 week). Finally, they often satisfy their METs while on MOB orders prior to deployment. Because of their higher optempo, this means every couple of years a unit may get extensive time to get after collective training. By law, employers can't discriminate against guardsmen while mob'd.

They're pretty much AGR the whole time. There's a few M day dudes but the majority aren't.

@@Izak213 That's not possible. You can't have an entire unit of AGR's, due to Force Structure restrictions. Their TDA would have to be totally different. (Which it's not)
