I have taken Carl's time sector class and really appreciate the simplicity of it. I am one of those individuals who bounces back and forth between task managers because of my ADD. I was locked onto Todoist because of Carl for a while, but I wanted an app that was more "connected" to iOS which Things is and I used previously. I haven't taken the full jump back into Things yet, but this video really helps me understand how to implement Carl's system. Thanks

I did the same. I really wanted to just stay in the Apple ecosystem but Things 3 just has more features I really need. Things 3 is so closely aligned with Apple though that it seems like an Apple app. There are 1 or 2 things missing though. You can't attach documents to a task (I've found a way around it) for example.

This is amazing. I have already started experimenting with this time blocking approach. One thing I find very useful and handy is that it is quicker to do many of the recurring actions through keyboard shortcuts. For instance, control + shift + M to move the task to a different list. Command + S to show "When" (all on mac). Also, one thing not mentioned in the video: explore using tags if you are working on multiple projects (if you are that avid multitasker). Thank you for the video!

How about using tags to assign the "Today's Focus items (i.e. the 2+8)? Then, you can filter by tags on the Today screen.

Great video ! Thank you ! Do you move 'tasks/activities' from the 'Recurring Areas of Focus' into the The Focus 10 Project each day? Or do they stay in the Recurring Areas of Focus Project which you then check in with each day? Thanks

I was reluctant to move from Todoist to Things 3 because of the TSS so I am really grateful for this video. I didn't know how to do it...Thank you, Davis for posting such great instructions and Carl, thank you for ALL your courses and for your generosity to post Davis's video. Maybe one day...you'll switch to Things 3 !😉 P.S. I just completed The Areas of Focus course you released and it is brilliant!

Nice video but how do you manage the PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES area in Things 3?
@annezdesahntis9261
@annezdesahntis9261 2 жыл бұрын
You include headlines . You will not have a board view but really, Todoist didn’t have a board view until recently and we all managed. At least, Things 3 keeps a Logbookk brilliantly, unlike Todoist.

Carl, Things 3 allows a few more options when it comes to planning projects. For example, there is a start date and a deadline, areas and projects. I know you are not a friend of having projects in the task manager. Tiago Forte and others use this very intensively in Things 3. Can you combine your time sector system with projects?
@Carl_Pullein
@Carl_Pullein 2 жыл бұрын
I've seen people try, but it rapidly becomes a mess. The goal is to stop random tasks disappearing in project folders that are glanced at once a week during a weekly review (which apparently only around 2% of people do consistently). When you use the Time Sector System in its purity, you have a simpler, more focused way of managing your work each week.

I have implemented your TSS in Apple Reminders, Things 3 and Todoist and the only thing I find very helpful here if the task manager supports sections, so as in Todoist or Things 3.

I am just letting it settle in that I have had a lifetime of adult ADHD, now getting treatment. I have achieved some success, but really it’s just luck as I muddle through most of my days without any plans...I am looking for the most simple task and time blocking manager. I currently am still using Things 3, haphazardly which I tried to organise with the GTD setup- but it’s been too complicated. It’s the projects that confuse me. I also have an Apple Watch, iMac and phone, So do you think it’s worth just giving up on Things altogether and starting to follow Pauls system in Apple and reminders and Apple calendar or should I try to set up Paul’s system In Things? Which course on Paul’s would be as would be the best for me to start with? I’m a stay at home Mum, with several on the go. I find it very hard to stay on track without a structured work day. I thought I might give it a few months with a digital system and a few months with planner pad or similar analog paper system and see which one works the best for me. In saying that I find reminders from my Apple Watch or phone incredibly helpful. Cheers

So basically you don’t use Today section at all?? And only use FOCUS 10 section for your today task list?

I personally find it very confusing “Purpose and objectives”, focus 10 and “reoccurring areas of focus” - what’s the difference between focus 10 and reoccurring areas of focus ? - and also why do you need so many of these different lists highlighting importance of tasks?
@Carl_Pullein
@Carl_Pullein 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Leva, it will be confusing if you try to look at everything in a 15-minute video. There are a number of components in any productivity system. Focus 10 is about prioritising your day. Before you can understand that one, you need to know what is important to you. Your Recurring Areas of Focus are the tasks that keep the eight most important parts of your life in balance--the things that are important to you.

Things 3 has a many ways to use, for example, Davis doesn't use filter by tags which can be very useful to prioritize tasks. Also, he did not mention Anytime, Someday areas which is powerful. I had an article to explain all of them but it's not english, so maybe I should be do that.
