I had a bad experience with one of these before, turns out it was because I didn't use the recess tool before using the tap and die. Good to know how to do it properly.

Baie dankie/ Serh danke Gary Moen. Very formative video. My Chinese Gomoto Motorfahrrad (200cc) 1 of 4 head bolts was strip by the motorbike shop down under at the base. I'll have to find a miracle... Merci beaucoup.

None of my new Big Serts have the collar and the tech at Time Serts stated they were not being made that way any longer. This video is good but it is not real world, I am replacing two 6mm bolts on my BMW 09 1200 rt and the replacement is going very slow, before installing the sert it is strongly suggested to use Loctite on the out side of the sert but why when the end locking threads should be enough shouldn't they be or not?

Did you ever fix this? The kit is Big Sert 5610.

Having some problems with the Time Sert. I really don't understand why the insert installation tool is formed the way it is. It has no step. My installation was a glowplug hole thread repair. Very inaccessible location. The threading operation went really well. Nice tool for that. But then trying to install the insert is not easy at all. I think mine is cross threaded now and the bloody insert is stuck in the head, in this inaccessible spot, and there is no way to remove it, and it is many threads from fully seated. This is a ridiculous pain in the ass - both the bloody engine and now this damn time sert. The installation tool cannot remove the insert, nor can it thread it in any further.

Why I don’t get some people recommend a jig plate, what if you have a drill press and your block is outside the car

That's what I'm here wondering. Such a simple question so overlooked. Do you double up on inserts or how does it work?

What's the torque rating for these inserts when used to secure head studs and bolts in a WW2 Jeep L134 cast iron block that is a 6:1 compression 4 cylinder petrol engine with side valves?

Awesome tool. But so damn expensive
@jymebale55453 жыл бұрын
I agree completely, the tools should not cost so much, the inserts, yes.
@JT_702 жыл бұрын
Agreed! But, I figured it was far cheaper than replacing the lower unit of my outboard (at least $3-$4K) which is what I used the kit to repair.

Does a high temp rtv or sealant need to be used when installing the Time-sert threaded sleeve , for example on a aluminum oil pan to prevent leaks?

No it almost welds itself

There is a major advantage in comparison to Helicoil. Time Insert ist gas and liquid proof without Locktite, Helicoil isn't!

I stripped my oil drain plug on my 2015 yamaha r6. I took it to a well known local shop and they put a time sert in it. I do a lot track racing and drag racing. Average speeds of up-to 140mph and top speeds of up-to 160 to 170mph. My question is will this time sert hold up during those extreme speeds with extreme pressure in the engine with RPM hitting almost 17000 rounds per minute. Or will it blow out ? The shop told me that it will hold up better than the aluminum threads I had before. But I am asking here will it hold up in those extreme conditions ?
