Very educational and easy to understand, you've got yourself a new subscriber, I love how your videos explain train ops without going over my head as well as not talking to the view like we're stupid. Keep up the good work and most of all THANK YOU!!!!

Glad this series helped your understanding. Lots of us operate layouts with this concept bu before this series I really did not understand what was really going on. It is simple when Doug explains it.

Oh, and I like how you ask questions while behind the camera, because many times it's a question I was having too.

Great to see some insight into operations. I just started out with a small N scale layout, and it is inspirational as to what it may become, not to mention what I may be able to expand to and do with it one day. Thanks for posting these videos.

He is very into the ops aspect of model railroading and has set up several large railroads in Ottawa. He does explain thinks as if it was very simple. I know for him it is.

The Timetable system is still used in the real world but it has been computerized. the concept is still the same. each car and locomotive is given a serial number by dispatch and these numbers are recorded on waybills (we use car cars on the models) the bills tell the contents of the car,the owner, the weight (loaded or empty), the car contractor, and the destination. once the car is coupled to an engine the bills are held on a clipboard by the conductor and the train goes from yard to yard. when the train arrives the conductor collects the bills and the cars are set out for locals to take to the final destination.

Looks pretty good so far.... h However minor issue with the form of addressing in Order No.8, as stated in the previous practice for your RR, your addressing orders to Engines (Loco, for some reason on your RR, oh well - anyway...) Order No.7 addressed to Crew (C&E is proper form) Loco 3600. (Body) Loco 3600 Run Extra A to Z. Order No.8 addressed to Crew Loco 3600 - wait... Loco 3600 should now and here after, until arriving at Z, or annulled, be referred to as Extra 3600 West in the address and in the body. Also another side note. It is a REALLY good idea to include the date on ALL orders, operation paperwork, registers, switchlists, etc because one missed piece of paper from an old ops session can cause problems and even laps of authority. One session I heard about had a head-on between two First class trains just outside the originating station of the "inferior" train. When the crew of the inferior train was asked about it they said and showed that the Train Register at the originating station showed the superior train having arrived. The failure was located in the fact that no one had removed the previous session's register sheet from the register... also a good reason to use register books, not loose leaf pages that can get lost. Happy operations! NOM
