John's beard; it feels like we've come full circle. Great to hear from John, as always. These commentaries are also very informative. Thank you!

Fascinating interview, thanks for all the info. Love the results from geophys!

John's summary of the differences between magnetics, resistance, and radar (4:20 to 10:02) is the best he's ever given. The TT Special S19-E02 Geophysics Compilation was also good, but to have it laid out short and sweet was great. We just re-watched the Geophys Compilation episode. In those days, radar was the third geophys technique. It looks the same as GPR. Is it?

when people comment on my beard/mustache I say "thanks, it's growing on me". glad to see you both in good health, and I CAN wait for some new digs. It's going to be hard, but I can do this. I still have to push going back to old sites that others have furthered and you revisiting them. It seems economical as well as informative. You've done so many 3 days that might have become over 3 years that I'd just love to see what has been found since then. Now that we have youtube you don't need to worry about the time, it's just what you want to put out. thanks for the updates too, it's great to see you all fresh and ready for the next dig!

John, the beard is epic! The Gandalf of Geophysics. Can't wait to see what the new kit does on the upcoming sites. I remember the radar results at Brancaster, Mark Corney's eyes popped out. And that was how long ago? Really looking forward to seeing what the new tech can do.

John ùGater is great, can make understand Geophysik even to a total technical ignorant like me, an that in a foreign language for me!! Hope they will be able to go on after the two scheduled programs, and maybe we will see someone more of the old crew in the future.

These are great, I think Time Team could make these into shows or shorts with a very small production team, just one camera person with the same interview on a site would be enough, even if they need notes or a tablet, you can tell the interviewers and interviewees have prepared, it would be nice to see the rest of it done at that higher level (in a non lock-down scenario).

Out of curiosity, any ideas on what the curving feature is outside the fort, which is to the right and above of John Gater's head.

Is it possible to show the TT episode before the commentary conversations, so we understand more what they are talking about? It saves you having to explain the episode as part of the conversation and you can focus on your memories and impressions. Just a thought.

Or you could just watch the episode first and then after watch this? I usually miss the premiers anyway so I never considered it an issue.
@Sapharone3 жыл бұрын
@@caphalor08 Sure, but the interviews could be conducted differently if the commentary comes after the episode. Maybe film the commentary after the premier and give fans the opportunity to ask questions?

One question I would have liked to ask is, did the Romans use chariots in Britain and if so why weren't any relics found ?
@gonefishing1673 жыл бұрын
I’ve never heard of it before. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
@Reichieru13 жыл бұрын
I suspect the landscape in Britain did not lend itself to chariots.

A huge chariot racing arena has been excavated at Colchester, so they had chariot racing. Don’t know about in the field. www.romancircus.co.uk/
@robertwatson393 жыл бұрын
@@judithcooke6979 I seem to remember something like that on TT, but the grey matter gets lacking at times. I would have though with all the roads the Romans built that the roads would be fine for chariots. If the Romans didn't have chariots in Britain I would have had to scratch that off the list of " What have the Romans done for us" lol
@philipsquire90569 ай бұрын
They only used chariots for racing as far as I know. The Britons used them in combat as referenced by a frustrated Julius Caesar.

I was going to ask : What IS the GEOPHYS ? Resistance and magnetometer, but do you use Ground Penetrating Radar ? Then the question was answered ! (I am a 60y/o electronics engineer). What range of resistance do you see, and what permeability of magnetic signatures ? I am surprised, particularly the major survey done in East Anglia of the Anglo-Saxon non-invasion, didn't use robots/remotely guided vehicles to cover that amount of ground, maybe (mostly) made of plastic to not affect the measurements. I grew up very close to several neolithic structures that I regret not investigating. A plethora of ring-forts plus major earthworks of ditch and embankment stretching about 2 miles with apparent settlement visible of Google Earth, but nobody seems interested in investigating them.
