I’d just re-watched that Domesday episode and am still curious about the two mill wheels that were found. They looked to be laying flat in some sort of stone collar. Were they laying in situ? In other words as they would have been used?

I don't think the mill was just a matter of saving time. It was a necessary support for population growth. Development of towns and cities probably couldn't have happened if all flour for bread had still been milled by hand. As it was said in the program this was an industrial revolution.

Must have been a major local catastrophe when one exploded, too.

@@ThePixel1983 Oddly enough, I remember a mill exploding near my school. Bell's Mills in Edinburgh exploded at 11.43am on 12 March 1971

In Pre-Civil War Missouri, and probably elsewhere in the central US, mill sights were the economic center of agrarian areas. Typically, a rudimentary commercial district would develop around the mill. These mill sights were vitally important to dietary and economic survival, which is why the Union would burn them down.

It's a shame they didn't radiocarbon date the timber found at the bottom of the pit. I looked through the report and it says that it wasn't dated.

Was the commentary reposted? I watched the Time Team Official commentary a few minutes after it first premiered and then I watched the Time Team Classics episode shortly thereafter. Premiered how long ago time for Official commentary is younger than Classis episode timestamp.

the original episode is from 2006, but they're going back and doing new commentary on those older episodes in order to give us all some content for the show we love.

@@ghomerhust Thank you. I know that the original Time Team episodes themselves are quite old. It does not answer the question of the KZbin timing. The premiere release date for both videos are the same, but the commentary (on Time Team Offical KZbin channel) is 30 minutes before the Time Team program (on Time Team Classics KZbin channel). However the "premiered" countdown read in a way that suggested order was program then commentary.

We need some Americans here to explain how the original mill must have been built by aliens to harness nuclear power for some unknown purpose.

we were trying to keep it a "clean" show, we didnt want to have to bring up how the aliens would obviously have given that original miller an anal probe

What about Bigfoot, you sonsabitches? Surely he dug the original mill race.

The purpose is simple really, generate enough power to run a receiver that will pick up BBC 4 and Time Team.
