Tony and team has literally saved my life by giving me a distraction from reality when my mind wanted to tell me it was time to check out… for all of TIME and quit the TEAM. (See what I did there?) 😂 No, seriously. Saved me during a very dark time. I watched every episode I could get my hands on. This one is new to me. Thanks for posting.

After 2 yrs of binging on Time Team's wonderous works I've never seen this but it was very obvious that the old Guard of archelogy permeated Tony, Phil's attitude, even Mick's. He's a patient wiser man for thriving and waiting for the rest to catch up.

John Gater and his surveys were some of the best aspects of time team... 3 days work would have yielded far less without geophysics, and the results are always "exciting". Of course it's the digging that shows what's there, but there's no better groundwork than geophysics as a precursor to digging. I love Physics and I love John's geophysics. Good on ya, John, you made a great team a better team.

Phil often hassled John but quite often he wouldn't start digging without the geophys results

What a terrific episode this was. A lovely find. If only Tony had known what was to come when he did his piece-to-camera at the end about the future.

More fun. Watching John Gater with the newest technologically in the New Episodes. Geophysics has ramped up their graphics. It is lovely. You still need to dig up whatever John has found to understand the archeology, but you can better understand what you are looking for.

A machine to see into the future would show Channel 4 sticking a trowel into Time Team's chest.

More like sticking the trowel in Time Team's back after the attempt to add in a bit of sex appeal with Miss shiny teeth that came with a big chest as a bonus. Mick saw what was up and bailed on the whole mess.

Ideal Time Team strategy: Morning, day one: As early as possible, somebody begins finding documents and maps, giving them only a brief look for now, for a rough idea what they say. Stewart walks about while John starts with mag, Mick makes his best guesses of a big, deep trench with vague stratigraphy for Phil, a narrow, meandering trench for Matt, and a few test pits for Raksha and whoever else. Then Mick consults with Stewart to give John priorities for res and maybe radar, and to give Henry targets for GPS and/or augering for details hard to get otherwise. Mick and Stewart get in a helicopter. They're back in time for lunch, where the whole group discusses what they see so far. Afternoon, day one: Coverings are brought in anywhere that may be hit by rain or hot sun, secured against wind. Armed with maps, Stewart begins to refine his understanding, consulting with Mick anytime something seems important. John finishes the major targets, possibly redirected by Mick from time to time. Everyone working trowels has plenty to get on with. Evening meeting at the pub to plan day two. Days two and three are for answering questions that come up and for nailing down any ambiguity. Very site-specific.

This was really really interesting. I think I have more trust in Johns work than many of the diggers and now we got to know how geophys works and how to read the result.

Thanks for posting, Reijer! I've learned so much about Britain and been well entertained in the process. Too bad the US version of the show is nowhere near as good. Often wondered if Geophiz John drives a Volkswagen. His favorite pointer looks like a VW key.

I want to know why Jon always used his car keys as a pointer in so many episodes. (32:00). I bet someone could track which cars he owned throughout the years
