Time to Chop Our Pink Princess Philodendron to Save It

Will be watching to see how this turns out. I had to do this with my Var. Burle Marx and was able to get more variegation. Thought I was going to have to do it with my PP but learned that it just needed more light. Hope you get some really nice variegation!

I can’t wait to see how it turns out too...I’m starting to see new growth and I still see a lot of pink. Might take a bit more time to unfurl...hopefully I don’t have to cut it back again. And the cuttings that I cut off that day is all declining so those can’t be saved. 😕

I still have my PPP and since I got it it has produced probably 8 pink leaves which did not really last long and easily withered off. Of the 4 green leaves there is now only one left to sustain the plant. Am thinking of chopping it off the pink top or graftiing hzaf of the pink stem with another philodendron probably a philodendron temptation though not sure if it would work.

If you don't mind, what soil do you use? Both of your PPP are breathtakingly beautiful!!! I just got my 1st and just ordered another, I want her to thrive so trying to decide on a suitable potting substrate. We don’t use any special soil mixes. Just whatever we have lying around the house. Most likely it’s some kind of cactus succulent mix with perlite added or regular indoor potting mix with perlite.

I have a pink princess with half moon variegation and turning brown too. Not crispy brown but limpy brown. I cut the brown part but still the browning is spreading. I noticed my new growth has browning too and took so long to unfurl. 😭😢🥺

Unfortunately after the new cut another all pink leave has just pushed out. UGH!! Don't know what's going on with it...might have to cut it down again. But at least it isn't browning yet. I think the browning and the leaf not being able to unfurl as easily might be a humidity issue. I heard others try giving it a light mist or use a humidifier to help it out. I should get one myself...to see if the browning might stop. If you find out how to stop the browning please share...would love to know. 💚🌱

That must have been brutal. I hate cutting such a beautiful plant. I wish they would survive with the pink leaves. Both of your plants are gorgeous. Love to see the update. My syngonium is giving off all white leaves and I'm debating whether or not to cut it too. ☹

I have a cutting that is getting brown on the pink spot and I don't know what to do. I have it in leca.

The pink is not always stable. We also get brown spots and even dropped pinks leaves on ours sometimes. There's so many different factors that can cause browning... too much sun, air too dry, soil drying out completely, or from improper watering. Just try to monitor and make small changes to see if your cutting improves.

I also have the same impending problem , from the time I got it with 3 variegated leaf and the last 1 semihalfmoon leaf from then on all 3 leaves that came out are all pure pink. The pink leaves wither much earlier compared to the variegated or green ones. Should I chop off the pink part. Am afraid the ppp would die off if no greens would come out.

Both my sis and I chopped our PPP a couple times to try to stop the all pink leaves situation. I did end up chopping mine another time after that because it was still shooting out all pink leaves but now I am seeing some speaks of green. So I guess it's working. My sis on the other hand has better variegation coming back. So gluck with yours. Let us know what you decide to do.

We got our PPPs around 3 years now. If you give it the right environment and something to climb it should grow bigger leaves. Just be aware that if you cut it back the leaves will start growing out small again. 💚🌱☺️

I like giving it bright light. In lower light conditions you may loose the variegation.

I’m not really sure why it does it. Those all pink leaves might die off later on and turn ugly. We recently just chopped off the branch of all pink leaves. Haha don’t wanna deal with it. It won’t hurt the plant. Chopping it and trying to get some green back would actually do more good than bad. Green helps the plant photosynthesis. 😊💚🌱
