Such a cool project, car man. Even though it's not a big money, Mustang, it still has the old-school feel, and still have that Rad factor when you're in it. Give it a stage one cut polish, and I bet the paint will come back. The wife and I just brought home a 71 Mustang mach 1 351C C6 fastback, and it's all there. We are going to get the car back on the road, not a full restoration. Just make it safe and drive it.

I've had a bunch of these Mustangs. I've always been a fan of the Mustang II's. That one looks pretty solid. I like it. It looks like a cool project. If you plan to drive it much you might want to throw a washer and nut on your driver side transmission crossmember bolt. It would run better if you rebuilt the carb. And a low pressure electric fuel pump would save a lot of cranking to get it started.

18:50 NAILED IT!! LOL. "Is this crazy or what? I am totally in the PINTO.....in the Mustang 2" Exactly. That's what that car IS! Not that I mind I've owned both before and loved them both! The 1973 Pinto I had was my very first car ever. I bought it when I was just 15. It was a Hoot! That Iron Duke did me no wrong at all and had some pep to it. IMHO from a 15 year old perspective at the time anyway lol! But IMHO TODAY that Mustang is going to need a big honkin A$$ TURBO to be any fun or get you around with any kind of cred LOL.

Nice to see some content on a Mustang ll. Rarely see these cars on any of the big name channels. The lima motors especially the 2.3 is an awesome motor. If you're really keen on making this a nice little daily to go back and forth to work, cruise, and take to meets, I really recommend getting a Racerwalsh Oval Port intake and putting in a Holley 350 two barrel or a Sniper EFI on that motor. I personally run the same setup on my 83' Ranger 4x4 with the same 2.3L although it being a cannon port head. It was an easy swap and it made the engine run so much better and I had a big boost in MPG. I deleted all my emissions related components including Smog pump, EGR, Cat, and all the crappy vacuum emissions stuff left over from the stock factory carb. I've put almost 15k miles on the setup and it's never let me down. Only thing I had to fiddle with was the jets when it dropped temperature dramatically where I live. Really recommend the swap considering it'll yield you positive results in all aspects like MPG, reliability, more efficiency, etc.
@thedirtheadshed
@thedirtheadshed Жыл бұрын
I have that carb on order already
@shanemintz03
@shanemintz03 Жыл бұрын
Gotcha, I'm sure you already know but you'll have to "detune" that carb some for the engine. Stock out of box did not run well on mine. The power valve was mostly the problem alongside jet sizing. I average about 19-20 mpg on the highway and 15-16 mpg around town which has been the best I can get with the setup I got on my carb. I'm going to a Holley EFI soon though to yield better fuel economy. Everything I've done to mine is as followed: Power Valve Delete, .28 Anti Pullover Pump Squirter, Blue Pump cam (set on one), 30cc pump, choke delete, and depending on temperature I run 66-70 size jets. If you somehow get the carb to run well with the power valve, definitely share the specs and I might try it out on mine before I switch over to EFI.

My first car was a used up 78 mustang 2 and I really liked it, I put a 302 from a 69 maverick grabber and some other stuff in it. But for some reason it seemed everyone else didn't like that year of mustang.

Amazing that Mustang II is pretty good shape for the age. I haven't seen one in years because not many people tried to save them because they were so unpopular. I have never been a Mustang guy but I have to admit that actually looks kind of cool.

This is great. I owned a '78. Red with white top years ago but did not even look this good. I now have a planned project of putting a '79 pinto wagon on 4 wheel drive. Watching all you guys really giving me thoughts on how to figure things out. Keep these type videos going. Love them.

Those wheels look great on the car, a classic look old school is always cool. A month ago I ordered gloss black 15" d slot wheels, chrome center caps ,and lugs for my wj . my buddy's all thought it would look horrible, but I stuck to my gut and those wheels with some mud lug tires look great. Ive got alot of compliments and next up is the 2.5 rough country spring lift ,unless you could recommend a better option .Good luck with the mustang build.

They came with an optional 302, so power is easy to make. A C4 is cheap and fits right in. This one probably has a 7.5" rear; I think the V8 had an 8", but a 9" can be put under it easily enough. biggest problem is getting any decent size tire under the rear without cutting the wheel wells out. The chassis will also really twist up to the point the paint on the rear pillars will start to crack if you don't weld in some subframe connectors. Been there...12's are easy and cheap if you want to do it!

Welding an exhaust under a car that's just a few inches above your chest sucks and I have done way too many times, but if that's all you can do that's what you do . Lol it's going to be a cool little Mustang 2 👍
