In this enchanting and inspiring talk Pui-Kwan reveals her personal story that led her on the path to becoming an urban gardener. Pui-Kwan asks us to consider where and how we might get our 'real food.' She also shares some successful urban gardening projects that have helped inspire and sustain local Hong Kong communities.
Pui-Kwan Chu is the Chairperson of S.E.E.D. (the Sustainable Ecological Ethical Development Foundation, previously HOFA, the Hong Kong Organic Farming Association). She was born in Hong Kong and has lived here most of her life ,except for a 13-year stint in Kansas, where she studied graphic design. Pui-Kwan is a keen patron of all forms of arts and performances, locally and internationally, and also loves educating people about using recycled materials.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. I pray for energy , to start and finish. I used to even travel to learn in the farms... after things changed so much in my life and in the world, I even questions if we can make it at all, but God is good, he showed me the light is possible, planting is believing in the future. Now that I got my energy bit by bit, all I need is initiation :)

Paul Paulson Once GMO seeds get into the world, we cannot weed them out. THAT in itself blows my mind. Here is a quote from the Institute for Responsible Technology: "The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) urges doctors to prescribe non-GMO diets for all patients. They cite animal studies showing organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders, accelerated aging, and infertility. Human studies show how genetically modified (GM) food can leave material behind inside us, possibly causing long-term problems. Genes inserted into GM soy, for example, can transfer into the DNA of bacteria living inside us, and that the toxic insecticide produced by GM corn was found in the blood of pregnant women and their unborn fetuses.". There is a lot of info out there and I urge everyone to look into what they're putting into their mouths.

as a gardener, i'm personally aware of the convenience that comes with genetically modifying things..but we just don't know. the terror sets in when we realize the stuff monsanto has created.. it's blowing in the wind everywhere and now farmers can't get rid of it. no amount of prison time or monetary payment can undo what's been done. scary shit.

Those boxes you showed are way too small . Little boxes are no good . Lettuce and spinach will bolt faster in warmer boxes(ng) . Put your plants right in the ground . One productive tomato plant takes about 10 or 12 square feet . Peppers about 6-8 SF each plant .Broccoli 4-6 SF Do not overcrowd .Give them all the space they need . successful gardening takes a lot of space if you don't want to be plagued with pests and diseases . Well grown plants get big . Vines like cucumbers and melons need space and air to prevent fungus . Beans too . Like organic suckers ? SEARCH ORGANIC HOAX . Thank God for your harvest . Take advice from success .

What ground? This is about growing food in an urban setting. It can be done and is done in all major cities. Square foot gardening has been implemented for a while now with great results! If you have the privilege of planting a large garden in the ground, that's great! If not, it is still possible to grow fresh produce in small containers with the right techniques.
