I am really glad you made this episode! I have a couple target bucks all hitting scrapes hard. That is going to be my strategy starting tomorrow! Also, I would have made the mistake of hunting high on the ridges in the morning. I am going switch that strategy for morning. It’s getting exciting now! Thanks Bill!

That's awesome advice 👍. I am doing the exact senario you just described. Last weekend I found 3 scraps at the field edge and lots of doe signs so I left a camera and pile of corn. This Sunday will hopefully depending on the camera images, do an afternoon hunt and on Monday an all day hunt in the timber close to all the deer beddings. Although I must say that these deers are very though to hunt due to close proximity to people, so far no daytime sighting 😂.

That sounds like a good plan. Good luck.

@bill-winke Thank you Bill, awesome advice as always, we as bow hunters are very lucky to have found your channel. Also for younger bow hunters this channel is gold so that they don't make beginner mistakes walking into an area bedded with deers.

I love morning hunts because they're so productive and they have been in the past. I have one stand all the way in the back of the property I hunt that is close to a funnel but it is between two ag fields and I would love to get back there in the morning but I'm afraid I'll blow it out. And I have to walk through an ag field on the edge to get to that stand as well.

I tried hunting this morning, a lot warmer than I liked it. I got two massive shooters on camera at night, hoping to catch them close to bedding or calling them out of bedding. I didn’t see anything lol. My spot is def a rut funnel and better during afternoons, hard not to bump stuff out going in at the dark

Hi Bill, like you, i dont like to hunt field edges in the morning. I hunt closer to bedding. As far as evening, what about picked cornfields? Would i be better off hunting edge of woods by picked cornfields last week of october and most of november and stay away from bedding in the evenings? I know where i need to be in the mornings just not the evenings. Also i dont have much land with my woods to plant food plots so if i ever decided to bait, would it be better to bait in middle of woods or more on the edge of woods? Thanks
@bill-winke29 күн бұрын
Craig, recently I have had good success hunting near bedding areas in the evenings too. If you can get in there and do all day hunts that would be best. Those bedding area spots will go dead about an hour before the end of legal shooting time, but prior to that (early afternoon) they can be really good. If the exit is sketchy from those spots in the evenings, then I would try to find funnels between two bedding areas to hunt for the evenings - something you can get in and out of easily without alerting deer. That would be ideal. Small interior fields are also good for evenings, but the field edges are tough to hunt with a bow because of their size. Also, does stop coming out into those places about November 6/7 roughly because they harassed non-stop. So the bucks stop hitting them also. Good luck.
@craigwagner32729 күн бұрын
@@bill-winke ok thanks, with me having some cornfields around my woods, would it still make sense for me to bait? The only reason I asked is because I have 2 hunters bordering my property that bait. I have high pressure in my hunting area

Hey bill, what code of silence would you recommend for Michigan? 25-55 degrees. Thanks
@bill-winkeАй бұрын
Matt, I think the Zone 7 Dialed In line would work pretty well for that temperature range. You will definitely have to layer under it when you get down to the 20s but should be OK on its own in the 40s and 50s. Here is a link, but you will have to browse around on the site to find the various pieces (tops and bottoms). I am a huge fan of the bibs for most hunting in those temperature ranges. Good luck. www.codeofsilence.com/collections/jackets-and-tops/products/zone7-dialed-in-parka

Punched my buck tag earlier this month thanks to some tips you gave. But , it’s been so hard to get on a doe or 2. Isn’t that how it goes. No more buck tags so all I see is bucks.
@bill-winkeАй бұрын
That is right. I remember one evening back in the early 2000s I had shot my bucks and was out trying to shoot a doe and really big clean ten pointer came out and stood eating beans with his head down for at least 30 minutes. I am not exaggerating, he was less than 40 yards away and never lifted his head for at least 30 minutes. It was around November 30 and I am sure he was whipped from the rut. But that is how it goes - had I been buck hunting that deer would have mysteriously been a doe! Good comment and congrats.

Is afternoon and evening the same?

To me, it is. I just call any hunt after midday an "evening hunt" versus a "morning hunt" prior to midday. Thanks for the comment. Have a great day.
@QCutubeАй бұрын
I like mornings so there daylight to find the deer if needed& daylight to process deer
@bill-winkeАй бұрын
That makes a lot of sense. Also, it seems that bucks are on their feet longer in daylight in the mornings than they are in the evenings. Good luck.
@EdwardHans-eb2xxАй бұрын
Is it too early for a buck decoy? Thanks
@bill-winkeАй бұрын
Probably. I think that comes once the bucks start to rut more intensely. You may be a response from curiosity now, but not from territorial anger, I don't believe. That will come soon though. Good luck.

Outstanding. Thank you. I hunt a property that I am payed to manage. TSI, tree plantings, wetlands management, etc. The land owner wants the buck population thinned because there are too many and they have damaged young trees in the plantings with rubs. I harvested a doe in the evening with a young buck present. He wouldn't leave the area. I snort weezed and he came closer. I grunted an aggressive mature buck grunt and he stumped and snorted. So I shot him too. I wanted a more mature buck but the land owner does not mind and a young buck tastes good. I was very surprised how this buck behaved. My son named him the "Big 6" from our cameras. So he is a decent 3.5 year old. The buck wasn't chasing the doe. He just checked her. When she presented a good shot I elected to take her. And he stayed. Interesting behavior.
@bill-winkeАй бұрын
Interesting. It is possible that some does are in estrus now. Carsen shot a buck this morning that was in full rut mode, running through the woods. It was an older buck too. Good luck.
