welcome to ds2! the story in this game is amazing, but the game itself has a bit of a learning curve (for me at least). allow me to tell you a few spoiler free tips. I saw some already mentioned, but figured it wouldn't hurt as a list either: - maybe most important tip: level up adp (adaptability): get it to 100, so around level 30 iirc. adp are your s, the higher your adp, the better your s. at 100-105 it's around the same level as ds1 fast rolling, which equals to 16 s. at adp 96 you get the same s as ds1 while mid rolling (which you were), which equals to 16 s. - weapon degradation is real. very real. your weapon can break in the middle of a boss fights if you forget to repair it (don't be like me..). - after numerous times killing an enemy, they stop repawning. - to find illusory walls, you have to interact with them. rolling or attacking does nothing. - wooden chests can be broken if you attack them, meaning you lose the item that was inside (it becomes "rubbish" instead). - you'll find bonfire ascetics. don't use them without knowing what it does since it's irreversible. - the more you weight (armour/weapons/etc) the more fall damage you take and the less farther you dodge. - do NOT join the champion covenant (at victor's stone). it's a special covenant that makes all enemies harder. it basically puts you in ng+. - lifegems will be your main source of healing. there'll be a merchant very early in game (depending on where you head out to first). exhaust all her dialogue and buy a few things so she moves to majula and sells infinite lifegems. - torches are finite. if you can't light it up, it means you ran out of its use time. they drop from some enemies or can be found in the world, but some places need them (at least it makes things a LOT easier), so don't use them mindlessly. in some places holding a torch also extends the range of aggroing enemies. - enemies will follow you to the end of the earth and fog walls won't give you imunity. it's often useful to deal with them one at the time, each time. - pay attention to the environment. often there are things in the area that are helpful to make use of. - read items, talk to npc's, all that, but we all know you already do that very well so this goes without saying. - to summom npc's, you have to reverse your hollowing. being hollowed can still let you get invaded though. I apologize for this long message, but I hope it was insightful and that nothing was any kind of spoiler. I think these are all the tips I can give you that'll carry you through the game. can't wait to watch this playthrough. take your time with it, all at your own pace. let's go!

First off, it’s so good to see you back in the comments! Missed ya:) Thanks for the tips! I’ve started leveling ADP, and the illusory wall came in recently! As always, I’ll reference your tips! Lmk if you find anything that comes up in the next vid!

Oh, two tips for your playthrough. Some doors and all wooden chests can be broken. If you break a chest, you also break its contents, so be careful checking for mimics.

Yep, just came from your retrospective, Talking to the Emerald Herald with or without an excuse flask shard will give you the flask. There is a shard in the well in front of the Majula Mansion, there is a brick you need to hit from the body to rise out of the well though.

Here's some stuff to keep an eye out for. You're gonna wanna level your Adaptability ASAP, at least up to 25. I think the Soft Cap is in the 30s, but unless you want slightly higher health and more frames I wouldn't worry if you're mostly doing PvE. The range for enemy aggro is HUGE, you'll have a conga line, sometimes a whole swarm of enemies chasing you, not joking. There's some animation canceling, example being you press accept to enter a fog wall and as your character slow creeps through if an enemy behind you sadly you're taking that damage, unlike in DS1. I think sometimes if enemies hit you while you're going through a fog wall it might actually cancel you walking through entirely and you're stuck getting ganked. When you drink Estus your character does not move, they'll stand there and sip. Ironically, your character can move around while using Life Gems. I think you can even buy 99 Life Gems from the Merchant Lady in Majuula, you don't even have to use Estus AT ALL. You could take it out your inventory Life Gems are that busted. Becareful with Radiant Life Gems because I think they're limited. Same with both these items, Fragrant Branch of Yore and Pharros' Lockstone, there's a limited number and you need them for access to stuff so don't waste them. Consumables are kinda good. One of the most praised things about DS2 is build variety. Level up adaptability to 25+ (or don't if you want to move like a snail lmao) then put points into whatever stat you want because builds are fun. Magic is actually really good in DS2, Hexes (the new magic aka dark magic) are pretty dope. I know you prefer strength build, but if you ever want to dabble in magic it won't hurt. I mean tons of unique spells for every branch. Fashion Souls/drip Along with plenty of spells, there are tons of cool and unique weapons. The Scorpion Tail rapier is one my favs. Tons of cool boss weapons! There's the meme weapon Ladle, literally a ladle. Along with Life Gems, you wanna stock up on torches. It's a weird new mechanic. But a ton. When you hold it you can't block but can attack, like the Skull Lantern from DS1. This game introduced Powerstancing. And PvP is fun too with the PvP arenas. If you kill the merchant in the house you get his armor set that increases the amount of souls you get from killing enemies. You don't have to kill him, but more souls... You can farm those pigs in Majuula if you want. Be on the look out in areas, there are couple of gimmick/puzzle bosses. It's EXTREMELY subtle, and easy to miss. And I think that's all I got for now, you have a keen eye, like with DS1. I was surprised you started noticing some of the 'issues' this early. Dark Souls 2 SOTFS doesn't do a good job at explaining how some stuff works imo. But you'll got this! Sorry for bombarding you with comments. Your Dark Souls series was awesome, and you really pay attention to stuff instead of rushing through, mad respect. PS: I don't mind you deviating from Souls stuff occasionally. The Lethal Company vid was funny as hell, and my intro to that game.

So what you're noticing with the controls is that the directions snap to 8 points instead of being completely free. Expect it to fuck over some jumps and such during your run.

Hey man, about adaptability, it raises a small stat on the side called AGILITY, the best AGI threshold is 88 / 99 / 114. The lower your ATTUNEMENT, the less you need to invest in ADAP. Gl hf, and git gud

DS2 was the last game in the Souls trilogy I played (played 1, then 3, then 2). I expected not to like it, and I was pleasantly proven wrong. It’s a lot of fun, despite the jank. Enjoy! (And git gud 😁🗿) Edit: You not grabbing the Estus flask or Estus shard in Majula stressed me out a bit 😂

@@capragamer Level ADP before anything else. For some reason, they decided to tie your number of I-frames to the ADP stat, so if you don't level it you will just get hit more because you get fewer I-frames while dodging. It was really dumb for them to do. It basically makes ADP essential for EVERY build.

love ds2. only thing is i don't like how it feels like you're sliding around everywhere, although you get used to it deeper into the playthrough. If anyone plays I would definitely suggest putting a few levels into ADP, you'll find it's a much better experience afterward.

I have a Love-Hate relationship with DS2 SOTFS. One day its my favorite out of the trilogy, and another its the worst, so I guess I'm the weird one whose mixed feelings where as most people kinda pick a side.

Oh boy DS2, where to begin. This game is the black sheep of the franchise. Reason being is because when it was originally shown it was right of the heels of Dark Souls gaining popularity, the Git Gud/KZbin Let's Play era. That's why you got the "This is Dark Souls" achievement, foreshadowing. The main director of the original Demon's Souls/Dark Souls/some Armored Core games Miyazaki was working on Bloodborne while Dark Souls 2 was overseen by a different director with From's B Team. The First gameplay footage showed it gonna be next level game, Cyberpunk, NMS etc. Then the game comes out and folks are disappointed. Its like the Zelda Original Wind Waker vs Current Wind Waker reception. The graphics didn't look as good like the first footage, game is locked to 30fps, lots of underdeveloped/underutilized mechanics, the world is not interconnected like DS1 making DS2 feel less like an 'Everything is connected' immersive world and more 'gamey', no ragdoll, some enemies don't respawn after dying a certain amount of times, the occasional bugs/glitches, the nonsensical hitboxes, TONS of enemy ambushes/GOTCHA traps, TONS of Gimmick AND Gank Bosses, and in my personal opinion the biggest controversial change, the new stat Adaptability. Adaptability is the stat that makes you dodge roll better meaning more invisibility frames, Poise works differently, and some other minor things. Also, there is one enemy whose running animation is kinda broken. Its completely ridiculous and probably not how it was supposed to look. I garuntee you notice it lmao. Then DLC came out, then FS released the Scholar of the First Sin version, which everyone now plays because the Original Dark Souls 2 was delisted so you can't play that unless you got the og disc. TLDR: DS2 had a different director along with B team and cranked the "THIS IS DARK SOULS" dial past 11.

Why i like ds2 is because its arguably the worst game of the series, made by the B team. BUT, that does not mean it is a BAD game. It really pushes home the point Fromsoftware doesnt make bad games. They just make some games that are better. I really appreciated some of the new ideas and changes in concept for ds2. You can see the inspiration from the old games up through elden ring. When you said "bloodborne reference?" You wouldnt be wrong in a way. Ds2 has some interesting torch mechanics that werent brought back until bloodborne ;)
