Honestly it's pretty nice to see that practically nobody cares about Borderlands 4 now. Not trending, nobody with any name value is talking about it. It just exists and is being met with total indifference. I love Borderlands but as long as Randy and his writers have jobs, my wallet remains closed and my bank card remains unused.

The series was pretty regarded as being unique and fun games despite the mixed bag humor. Borderlands 3 had such painfully unfunny writing and was disrespectful to fan favorite characters like Rhys and Maya that no one cares anymore. I take it it only sold as well as it did is because it went on sale alot.

The problem is Razorfist weakened his own argument by comparing Sun Wukong to Hogwarts Legacy by saying that they were both astroturfed by publishers to get the anti-woke crowd to buy it while still pushing it. I cannot in good concience say Hogwarts was astroturfed after what happened to Pikamee and Yahtzee going on a 2 minute rant about how much Rowling is an evil person and that he hated that the Escapist made him review it.

Well that and saying that Journey to the west has limited appeal to westerners and reducing it down to just "the monkey game". Razor might have the right idea but comes to it through the wrong conclusion, instead of talking about how CCP seems to be funding both the woke shit and themselves as a viable alternative in an attempt to corner western markets and are censor happy enough to completely screw over other properties, including ones based on their own mythology, just because they can and to keep their citizenry derecinated.

It definitely got a notable bump for being the "TERF" game that led the emotionally incontinent to viciously attack streamers who sought to stream it. I think that turn of events was organic, though.

@@seg162Yeah that’s what I mean. WB didn’t pay people to make the controversy, which is what Razor heavily implied calling it “anti-woke marketing”. In reality Sun Wukong is the first game to do “anti-woke marketing” and it’s because it’s actually linked to the CCP.

​​​@@DigitalGame18dragon ball is the first exposure to Journey to the west to a lot of westerners, but DB was the exception, not the rule. Hell, I read manhwa and manhua, and I can tell you, manhwa have a bigger appeal in the circles of readers than the chinese comics, because the raw stories they produce aren't as appealing as they told you they are. A lot of games and movies have adapted Journey to the west and only a few have made an impact outside of Asian countries. So yeah, using DB isn't a good example

Tales from the borderlands had the best writing in the series and i lost interest in the series after that. Indifferent to 4 being announced though if they make an Anthony Burch wii u joke then that would be based, and Randy B itchford is the darksydephil of game developers.

Tales had some great moments. Scooters sacrifice, Jack's final speech and confrontation with Rhys. Unless we have a massive change within Gearbox, I don't see it coming back to that quality.

They already ruined Rhys and the terrible sequel to it threatened to ruin fiona. 3's writing is just atrocious and all the writers seem to be soy redditors so unless they've changed the writers for 4 then it's doomed.

Tales was all Pierre Shorette for the most part, despite the shortcomings with the episodic format he knows how to write and establish characters and themes. If Gearbox don't get a writer at least of that caliber for Borderlands 4, it's already over.

The talk about Black Myth was funny for me, because I spent the stream playing Max Payne 2 and Thief The Dark Project. Why waste time and money on everything annoying about modern games when all-time classics are cheaper and more accessible than they've ever been?

Nah, sorry man, if a film ( Alien Romulus ) is relying on memberberries then it's a hard pass and from what I hear from the likes of Rob Ager they may undermined a legacy character's triumphs.

the start of every borderlands is one of those things that makes me not want to play them (besides the awful writing like in 3 and Gearbox in general). Not to mention the real game doesn't even start until playthrough 2. If you removed the open world segments of borderlands and turned the "hub" areas into just a menu with the shops on it, nothing of value would be lost.

@SuperHalofan64 Honestly I don't think it looks that bad. The new gameplay footage definitely shows that they're listening to some feedback. Still not entirely sold on it because it's Bloober, but MAYBE it won't be as bad as we were expecting.
