How do you evaluate your understanding of the 3 stories? A. understand the very general topic B. understand some details, including emotions C. understand the words, but miss the jokes D. understand the nuances, expressions, jokes

I would say I was at Level A for the second two stories, and moments of getting details, including emotions. First dialogue was hard to understand much beyond a word here and there.

Obrigada professora 🥰
@thelanguageunschool8 ай бұрын
Boa, Charlie. Podes também tentar ouvir a primeira história mais vezes agora, tentando transcrevê-la. Pensa no tópico geral, depois palavras que apanhas, até perceberes detalhes mais pequenos. Às vezes é só uma questão de foco. Enjoy!

The first thing I wanted to do was pull out my notepad and start writing down the words I heard😅. Unfortunately, I was at the bus stop and my bus had arrived. I think I understood it was about a house. It needed to be cleaned. You lived in other houses before. All houses have some problems. Something having to do with windows. I am actively working on my listening skills. I look forward to your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@thelanguageunschool8 ай бұрын
Boa, Vicki! You got a lot. When you get off the bus ;) try to listen to one story at a time and I'm sure you'll pick up a lot more. Perhaps the auto-generated subtitles will give you important clues also.

House & Thank you 🙈😃 I have no problem understanding you, my problem is I don't yet have enough Portuguese vocabulary , I am and will keep working on it. Obrigado for the listening practice video❤👍

It took me a while to understand "house". 😂 Ok, I'm a bit confused how you manage to understand me if you don't have enough vocabulary. You must have some already! Try this free sample of the first phase of my program. One of the ideas is to help my Unschoolers acquire their first 600 words (less here because it's just 3 stories): thelanguageunschool.com/course/ministart

Oh my!! Positives - I recognised what you were saying was Portuguese!! That's a start !! There was a bit more. General topic - your house and house mates? The others made noise and a window was mentioned in the #3. I have a loooooong way to go...... oh my!!
@thelanguageunschool8 ай бұрын
Great that you started with the positives, Lisa, and that you recognize that understanding I was speaking Portuguese is one. That is good mindset-wise. And then you got the general topic and some details. You can focus on one story and watch it a few more times; or another video of mine that has subtitles and notice the patterns. That's all language is about ;) Enjoy!

I'd say that's amazing for a beginner. Boa, Julie!! It's definitely worth coming back to this video in a couple months' time. It's a great way for you to recognize progress.

And here I was thinking my Portuguese was progressing🤣🤣🤣 Hmm...recognized many words and I think I know the gist but not much more.
@thelanguageunschool8 ай бұрын
Maybe you simply need to focus on one of the stories and watch it a few times; change the speed; go back and forth... and good that you understood some things, right?
@elBuho7748 ай бұрын
eheheh with Portuguese subtitles a B or C. but without, an A. Nada pior do que xixi de gato! uma nova palavra! I have never heard of a crying house :) . Without the subtitles I chase to catch a word I understand, but by then I miss the next 5 words. Was one of the three versions "easier" to understand? I felt like #3 was clearer to me, but perhaps I had some ideas after the first two. It would be an interesting thought experiment to put the easiest one first, and #2 and #3 get more complicated... Great stuff though!!
@thelanguageunschool8 ай бұрын
So funny you got THAT detail!! In normal conversation it'd be very annoying to miss the next 5 words, but since this is recorded, you can take advantage of it and rewind as often as you need and put the puzzle together.
@RosWarmington-df2gw8 ай бұрын
Really hard and frustrating for me - this is exactly how I feel in conversation with Portuguese people, I can pick out a few words but have very little idea of the context or points they're making.. I understood the general theme and maybe a few details so maybe a B - you seemed to be talking about different houses, #1 I got a big house, 10 years or more, next to the beach, with a swimming pool. #2 honestly didn't get much. #3 something about a house on the main road, lots of pollution, things turning black with pollution, a room with no windows. How you couldn't live there again, maybe? I guess that's something! More than I thought actually!
@thelanguageunschool8 ай бұрын
That is quite a lot of details, so Parabéns!! You can now focus on one of the stories and listen a few times, a few seconds at a time. In the first phase of my program, I slow down to get people time to recognize the patterns of how we speak. Maybe try this sample and see how it goes: thelanguageunschool.com/course/ministart
@ingermacrae7 ай бұрын
1 - talking about your perfect house? That it needs to be small so you don’t have too much to clean? 2 - talking about houses you have lived in? 3 - talking about problems with the houses. Didn’t get more than maybe the idea? Or I might be far out. 😂
@thelanguageunschool7 ай бұрын
Boa! You got the general idea of each story and even a detail. If you listen more times you will definitely get more meaning.

Didn't get much, about the same as Lisa. I'm guessing I'd probably know half or more if written. Not sure this approach does much for me. I'm focusing on connected speech and pronunciation and vocabulary, but it's not made much difference so far
@thelanguageunschool8 ай бұрын
Sarah, this video is not good for connected speech because there's no text alongside it. It's more to relax and see how much you pick up based on vocab you already know, your exposure to spoken Portuguese, and the big percentage human communication is based on: body language and intonation.
