Senator Whitehouse, I live in Michigan but I still follow you, because it is really important that Americans follow, not just their own state political leaders but all state leaders to understand the big picture. You are truly one of the good guys and our democracy is depending on people like you! My brother Jim Gretzky, works in Newport as a Naval Architect (Webb Institute class of 1980) and consultant for various 12 meter yachts, and was once part of the Heart of America design team that raced in the America's Cup in the 1980's. He speaks very highly of you. My son is also on the Naval Academy Offshore Sailing Team, class of 2027. So from one sailing family to another, keep staying the course! We are in rough weather right now, but the ones that survive a storm out at sea are always the smartest and most experienced. This is going to be a long four year regatta and the opponent may have won a few races, but our team is more intelligent and we will win this U.S. National Democracy Championship Regatta.

This should be a reduction to fossil fuel carbon, to be technically helpful. But a global tariff isn't going to fix anything, any more than Trump's tariffs will yeet the USA back to infant industry in early America. We need energy; we can only evolve if we want to avert suicide. And overly drama queened moves will vitiate the whole thing.

Levels at the beginning of the industrial revolution were about 275. We are today emitting more greenhouse gasses than ever before. We are using fossil fuels more than ever before. If you want less of something: tax it. Ideally, the tax on fossil fuels would be equal to the present value of environmental damage these fuels cause. If we did an honest accounting, we would find the tax so high, no one could afford to use fossil fuels at all. This is capitalism’s price mechanism signaling that our goose is cooked. Try lighting a match. Easy. Now unlight it. Good luck.

We are elderly living on a very limited income. It's been 31°F and can't afford heat. We bundle up, (wool hats, socks and gloves too), and use an electric throw on our laps during the day. At night we sleep inside a 0° sleeping bag. There was water heating tubing throughout the apartment building that the previous owner paid and it was in excellent condition. But the new owner, a multi millionaire, installed electric baseboard heaters in two rooms to save him money and is expensive to use. I use a small electric heater in the bathroom so the pipes don't freeze and at night turn the oven on low for the kitchen pipes.. On the upside we aren't homeless. On the down side we are cold and the new owner is creating a larger carbon footprint.

It amazes me how the elderly are treated in supposedly'' the best country in the world' '' here in my country we have had a fuel allowance for our winter, and our pension doubled once a month over a a two month period to help to live in comfort and dignity over the winter months,, I'd hate to live in America they don't care for the people, I'm retired since I was 65, and living on a government pension..

Thank you Sen Whitehouse. Currently an avg 3/2 FL home pays $6100 for homeowners with a 12% deductible. DeSatan passed a law that insurance companies cannot be sued. A recent documentary highlighted that insurance companies are only paying 20-30% of damages and many things like fences, sheds, awnings, landscape, tree removal, yard & pool cleaning are excluded. Needless to say, the insurance market is one of Florida’s largest political donors. Additionally, we pay an avg of $900 in flood insurance, and another $8500 in auto insurance. Given that FL is one of the most expensive cities, while pay is stagnant; most homeowners are canceling their insurance as 15k annually is unconscionable. If it were not for family, I would have left FL 25 years ago!
