The Met Gala is a charity event that is considered a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. The stars buy tickets and kind of compete with each other for press with their outfits to get in to support a section of the museum that may feature them and their outfits one day. You have to be invited to be able to purchase the tickets, so it 's also kind of a gauge of your popularity to be invited to attend. It's kind of circuitous, but it's about fashion. It really just kind of helps the museum and peoples careers I guess.

You do realize that it is a costume gala, right? People are supposed wear ridiculous costumes that nod and wink to the designer being honoured. Karl's work with the houses of Chanel, Chloe, Fendi as well as his own label changed the fashion industry. Study his work and review the costumes after, bearing in mind that they are costumes and you wouldn't think it's desperate, you will understand and appreciate all the creativity and even recognize which collection inspired certain costumes. So many were so obvious. Rihanna's, since you like like, was a Valentino, known for the rose, but the camellia flower aka the Chanel signature flower and without seeing logo, one knows something is Chanel. So Valentino used his signature rose to pay homage to Chanel's flower, which is a rose of a different sort. Killing 2 birds with a stone. The camellia rose is part of the brand identity, it was Coco's favourite flower & thanks to Karl, camellia equals Chanel. It's on clothes, bags, shoes, scarves, packaging, etc. The rose is on many of Valentino Garavani's offerings. So many symbols in this short clip. When you know, you know. Why go to a costume gala and not deliberately want to be over the top
