The blades on short track aren't centered under the boot, biased to the inside. I've ran tons on the oval track (Calgary) since the 90s and been able to observe short and long track. They work super hard.

It's definitely not. I've been training for 6 years and my technique still isn't perfect. Something to know is that speed skating (especially short track) consists of 70% technique. You may have speed, but technique is what will hold you up.

@lifeisgood070: it's because when you walk down the stairs, your weight is balanced on your whole foot, mostly your heel, so you feel the burn all over your thighs, calves, and butt. but when you walk up the stairs, people tend to just step with the ball of their foot, the front half, so the pressure is on the feet and not the legs.

Every rink rat know's all about the stairs to the bar/viewing room haha. We do lines for transitions at the end of practice for hockey, slow skate 50 laps while the figure skaters finish on the stairs and getting a good view, but doing it really slow knowing the fking stairs are coming lol. It does feel good afterwards though with a big bowl of pasta and calves so tight and jelly-like u can't walk properly.

Ohno is half-Japanese, half-caucasian??? I thought he was Spanish this entire time. I play soccer (and almost every other sport out there) and I've started getting into speed skating ever since I watched the 2010 winter olympics in Vancouver. And man it's exhausting skating laps. Probably the most favourite activity for me of all sports now is speed skating since I love speed. I'm a speed junkie...speed demon.
