I enjoyed watching this couple build this. All i can say is based solely on the wind shots shown during build i hope they ran wind power vs solar cause they would have enough extra banked energy to sell off to neighbors lol enjoy.

Seeing it all come together in timelapse, over a cup of tea, makes all the sweat (and frozen fingers) disappear, and the whole thing looks ridiculously easy. Basically proving three things: the solid design, your hard work, and your editing skills. I enjoyed reliving the whole thing, although I was disappointed that it didn't catch the fleeting moment Aspen did his victory dance just as you finished off the front fascia. That was as good as Lolita surfing down the roof.

Haha they both said they wanted more food in exchange for us to use their footage for this video, so we worked with what we had 😂 In all seriousness now, I think, some day, we should do a full video of Aspen´s and Lolita´s craziest footage, so much gets recorded when we leave the camera on the tripod! we always find some gems that we didn´t even know happened!

Yes, it only works in warmer areas. No chance to build something like this in norway.

I would invite you all to come visit and test your theories in the Cabin but we wouldn't fit. Answering really quickly to all the above, yes glass would have been nice, but that money is saved for the final project, the front door opens completely to the outside opening that whole facade to the garden, and pretty much everyday we use it like that, when cold or at night that we close it, the interior feels so spacious in the inside that even with the doors closed it does not get claustrophobic at all (for us at least) Doors are sealed VERY tightly (you just watched a speedy version of the whole progress to date, we have the full build shown in several episodes) kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHiVqKWhpc1kh6c The WHOLE front facade, half the back and the side window are TRANSLUCENT, that is roughly 18m2 of translucent surface for a 18m2 house.... how is that for natural light? In Norway you would need to add an extra layer of EPS/XPS insulation on the outside before the metal cladding.

Man, you guys did a great job Well done, Truly inspiring! I can give you one tip regarding the roof and wall cladding: cut the iron with a nibbler (electrical tin snips). Using a grinder leaves the edges ruff and prone to rusting in future.

That’s awesome! Congrats on the beautiful home! I don’t know where you live but if it freezes during your winters, be sure to insulate the water and drain pipes which are exposed to air outside of the house (there’s not a whole lot of mass, so it’s prone to freezing)…

If the dark exterior cladding runs vertically, it could also be used as passive solar heat for interior, by sealing the bottom, & making an air inlet from inside, low on the wall, & an air outlet from it, on the upper wall. Use closable vents. If do this on each side, whichever side is used, faces the sun most of the day. Be careful though…that much black wall might cook the interior if the vents aren’t regulated right. Put changeable air filters on the intake vents.

your vibe is purely awesome and the two of you have such a great thing going on :) I am also interested in building a small workshop and later on a house similar to yours, but with todays legal requirements, you need at least 30% of the energy usage to come from renewable sources. So i also need to think about energy efficiency and recovering as much heat as possible. This complicates things a little bit but i believe its possible to turn your idea into something of a passive house, with more up front investment, but lower bills after its done. Sending good vibes and energy to you so you can keep doing what you love :)

I've owned a metal framed home. On the plus side, they are incredibly strong, and do no creak or flex like a wood frame home. On the minus, they conduct heat and cold very quickly through the frame, resulting in higher energy costs for me to heat in the winter, and cool in the summer. My 1350 square foot home energy costs were more than a 3600 square foot home I bought years later. Just my experience, yours might be different.

Hi William, yes, if not properly insulated, oriented and/or designed, houses become very expensive to keep cool/warm. Sorry you had that bad experience and happy that your new house performs way better. LSF structures with proper insulation perform the same way than any other type of framing/building technique, specially if thermal bridges are properly accounted for on very hot/very cold climates.
