good job Mike. I've just got a DSLR. You've answered questions I didn't even know I needed to ask! And, more improtantly, you didn't spend 30 minutes showboating with unaffordable equipment and self-hype!

Thanks very much! It's amazing what you can do with very little kit when it comes to timelapses ... I love shooting them and always try capture them whenever possible. Thanks for watching 😁👍

Excellent video! My first time lapse of people, in the neighborhood park, may have few subjects and a longer interval will make it appear more busy, I think. I took notes when watching this video, Thank You.

Awesome vid Mike! Thanks for all your testing and work to make these videos seem simple and bite sized. I shot a time lapse of security at Denver International Airport (with permission of course) and used a 2 second interval. It was really interesting to see things working at that speed in a security line.

Thanks so much! Now that would be an interesting time-lapse to do! I'd like to see that if you have it anywhere on line. 👍 Haha, I'm glad you got permission as they probably wouldn't have liked that otherwise!! 😁👍

I generally use 1 or 2 seconds for my interval with half that for my shutter speed as you say. Mostly I go 2 sec with a 1 sec shutter. I like to speed ramp up and down as a transition so I can get your 10 effect in post so I keep things simple in the field.
@mikesphotography

Hi Roger, Good to hear what you do when shooting your own timelapses. Speedramping is a great way to transition isn't it...and much better to do it in post than try to complicate the shooting process. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated! 😁👍

Great video and examples, Mike. I agree that the 1-3 second time-lapses seem to work best for people. When I have tried this in an area like the one you used and people are traveling pretty constantly, 2 seconds really shows the movement well. I have taken some time-lapses of people in city squares in Europe where many are moving a little slower and taking in the sights and 3 seconds has worked better. I was wondering what to do for lunch today and now have a craving for Five Guys since seeing their sign in your video. Thanks for the suggestion.

Haha!! Those damn burgers...far too tempting!!! 😆 Good to hear your thoughts as well...and you're right, the speed of the people really can change the look of your timelapse and that's when altering these settings can compensate or exacerbate this effect. 😁👍

I think the biggest factor is distance from the subject. Do you know if putting the a7iii on silent shutter will prolong shutter life?
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 4 жыл бұрын
Distance from the subject definitely changes the look as well. It will definitely prolong the life of the shutter as it won't be in use during the timelapse. 👍

can you explain the impact of aperture in the 180 rules in day and night? thank you for the video
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 2 жыл бұрын
Aperture would just help you manipulate the shutter speed to be able to get your camera to the right setting for the 180 degree rule.

I would really like to do more time lapses but I have two issues: First, I don't really know how to efficiently process the images into a time lapse video and second, I can never figure out what to capture. Oddly enough my son does time lapses on his phone all the time and he always finds interesting things and figures out creative ways to set up his phone in great locations to capture it.
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Seth, They are definitely a different form of photography. It does take a lot longer to process proper timelapses, but the results can be pretty spectacular. The best way to get better at picking a subject is to copy ones you like first off...then you'll start to look at things with a timelapse mentality and this will help. 👍

Hi Mike, big fan here! What I don't understand is how you achieve an interval of less than one second on the A7iii . . . Any clues?
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, The only way to do it with the A7iii is by using S&Q mode. As long as the light is good, the quality of the timelapse will be good as well. Thanks for being a fan, watching and commenting, much appreciated. 😁👍

Does the Time Lapse Bitrate which might be - 40 or 60 or 100, all shot in max 4k with smartphone matters?? I don’t think I see any difference in my PC or iPhone after I exported them. Thanks for your video!

What if we just shoot in ~1-2 seconds interval and speed up or slow down in post depending on which suits the best?
@kiercollins
@kiercollins 2 жыл бұрын
How do you do less than 1 second intervals, the intervolometer only goes down to 1 second?
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 2 жыл бұрын
In most of the current sony cameras, they have the S&Q mode which allows a shorter interval than 1 second.

Mike ... I’m about to buy a 16-35 lens for my Sony ... Do you think a faster lens like the tamron 17-28 or 16-35 2.8 would be better for day to night time lapses ??
@mikesphotography
@mikesphotography 4 жыл бұрын
You'll get better images at the end of the sequence, so it would be worth getting a faster lens for that application. 👍
