I just sold my 11.2 acre property after 22 yrs (driven out by the antics of the marijuana growers) where I had built an 800 sq Ft shop. I bought a better home in a civilized neighborhood and now have a 12 X 12 ft building I have converted to a mini temporary shop but yet need more space to set up a woodworking shop. What I have available is about 2/3 rds of a tight 1 .5 car garage; roughly 12 x 22 feet. I have been trying to figure out how to do this and very discouraged considering the luxury of space in my former 800 sq ft shop. I'll show this video to my wife ( she is concerned about my situation) . Very impressive, you have given me hope and inspiration. Thanks from Southern Oregon USA.

This wouldn't be youtube without a negative comment! "You should have triple glazed that door for better sound and heat insulation!" Top work this - Bet this was sitting in the archive dreading the 14 thousand hours to chop all the footage and put it together. Impressive use of the space. Thumbs up.

I know I'm pretty late to this Andy but at 0:12 did you use an damp course / plastic behind the 3x2's? My garage looks identical to yours and I'd like to do exactly the same really. Battens, insulation in-between and ply on the face.

On the garage door side. you added the strings to hold the insulation and then the board on top. Am I right to think the cavity is ventilated from the door. Do you need a membrane on the warm side under the plasterboard? And if You wanted to add some insulation on the base to ensure no moisture from the door, do you have any suggestions? Amazing video :)
@Tensquaremetreworkshop4 жыл бұрын
What I really like about your workshop is the emphasis on work- it is designed as a place to make things, not look pretty. Everything is close to hand, and the simplest solution used. I am fed up with viewing a constant string of workshops decorated with systainers in sysports (which must be the slowest access method of storage known to man) and other items there to look pretty rather than practical. Well done!

What's your impression of the soundproofing efficacy of the MDF walls? Standard practice for soundproofing in the US is two layers of fire rated (extra dense) 5/8" drywall. 18mm MDF has similar weight per square foot as 5/8 type-X drywall, so I suspect it would have similar soundproofing effect -- with the added benefit that you can mount things on the MDF.
