All those lovely layers! They must be extremely thin fabrics. Tale of Genji was part of my high school's World Literature course. The teacher was wise and avoided most European lit in favor of other cultures and countries.

Each kimono in that layering is lined I think I counter 10-12 layers. So 20-24 layers of gossamer silk.
