This film sort of dances on the edge of 'B' movie and better. Certainly has its moments. It is definitely Film Noir. I do appreciate these uploads as I currently do not have access to TCM. Love the genre.
@tonycrowYT
@tonycrowYT 11 жыл бұрын
Wow. Thanks for the upload, TCM. This really defines the "femme fatale" theme; I can think of no better besides "The Maltese Falcon," and the deadly dame in that one needed Bogart to slowly reveal her nature. Here, the "lady's" predatory evil is clear from the first few minutes...so one watches to see just how bad she will be. This is one creepy horror film.

*****NonSpoiler review**** Excellent movie with a great suspenseful plot. I love black and white movies, but NOT all. This is one of the best. The cast is fabulous and the story is a psychological drama. If you are interest in human behavior and the Sociopathic/Psychopathic Narcissist who destroys each one in her/his path you will love this. Thank you to Timeless Classic Movies. I would highly recommend. Leslie Brooks is breathtaking.

It held up surprisingly well. Leslie Brooks steals the show, especially toward the end. It is interesting to look at a B film like this and wonder just why it is a B film; what does it lack to make if an A film Or to put it another way, why does the combination of Billy Wilder, Raymond Chandler, Fred MacMurray, Edward G. Robinson, Barbara Stanwyck make for a great movie?

"Special Effects: Ray Mercer." There is still a small building in Burbank lettered "The Ray Mercer Building," where someone I knew had some animation photographed. It will probably be gone soon.

This woman is clearly a psychopath! How was she able to report the news?

I don’t know why you’re so shocked. After all, psychopaths are everywhere and our government is run by them, too.

Just a year or so after this movie was released, Leslie Brooks married Russ Vincent. She became a full-time homemaker, had 3 children, and the couple remained married until his death. She lived about 10 years after that, dying in 2011.

I’m just confused by the ending. WHY DID Claire write a confession letter ? She seemed like she hid her tracks pretty well so why would confess everything in a letter? Maybe she thought the doctor was on to her and would expose her? Or perhaps she truly in her own way loved lee burns and felt some some of guilt? Any other suggestions or did I miss something.

As a couple of people have commented, the ending was unbelievable - or should I say, even more unbelieveable than the rest of the plot! But at the end of these films when the main actress is plainly seen to be a murdress, and likely to be executed, a script writer knows they must not leave the audience wondering how dreadful her fate is going to be and killing her off, no matter how, gives a sense of ending, which is what all good fiction has!

I'll never understand why Whitman Chambers didn't give his novel the title "Blonde Ice" instead of "Once Too Often". Just one murder is "once too often" ; let alone 3 times!

Wow. "I'll think about you on my honeymoon!"...That's like a porn actress telling you that she loves you and that she'll come straight home after work.

After I watch films of the noir genre, I start speaking like Sam Spade, all " broads, fellas, dames, scores, bumping off," etc. 😁😉
