In a span of 4-5 years he was screwed by Vince, his brother, father, brother-in law, and two best friends in the industry (Rude, and Henning) all died, he had a stroke, had to retire early and got divorced. Christ, I'd probably be way more bitter than Bret is now. Bret's just very serious about his legacy, and tells it like it he sees it.

I remember reading in Bret Harts book about his match with bulldog at SS 92 and having to carry bulldog in the match. But when you watch the match you don't see it because it shows just how professional and brilliant Bret was in the ring

Bret just tells everything as it is, he's very cold with his expression and is a nucleus in the wrestling industry. I imagine he was very intimidating to interview.

Bret is not cold at all he is known to be a nice guy in the industry. He is the most open and honest guys in wrestling. He is serious because he took his legacy seriously. He was a legit wrestler, not an entertainer like Hogan or Flair and he knew certain wrestlers who did not have his talent would try to sabotage and exploit that. That is why Hogan never wanted to wrestle or put Bret over, he knew that Bret had more talent.

I watched this on WWN. Apart from sync issues I was happy to support KC. This is a great shoot and Bret was fantastic even putting his narcissism aside. One of the better Timelines and up there with Nash and Waltman.

Excellent preview and I cannot wait to see the full version of this Timeline interview. Bret is one of my true heroes in life and his interviews always interest me. His values, opinions and ethics are what I try to adhere to, and it is cool to hear him talk about 1992, not only one of my favourite years in wrestling, but the year I was born =) It is nice in this instance to see Bret in a new interview setting and he seems to be much more relaxed and happy. Also, I have never heard Bret utter the words "MotherFucker!" so George Steele must have riled him up big time. Plus, his comment about Vince at the end of the preview is humbling given what took place over the years.

Never understood why everyone gets on Bret's case for taking the wrestling business so seriously. Think about it, your father is Stu Hart, one of, if not the the most respected man pro wrestling. There is a lot of pressure to perform being a Hart. Bret did and is widely regarded as being in the top 5 all time best workers. There are countless video's of wrestlers stating as such, and Bret being a second generation wrestler took a lot of pride in the "art" of pro wrestling, and not the whole gimmick side or the promo's. I'm not saying that those 2 things dont play a big part, but unless you have the ability to make it all look real, the other 2 things don't matter. Sure hogan and flair could talk but there work inside the ring was not up to snuff.

I love when the guy asks Bret about Owen getting teamed with Koko B Ware and their ridiculous ring attire at 3:18. Owen and Neidhart had used those outfits the year before until Anvil left WWF. I remember the first time I saw those outfits I was like "WTF". Those things were awful, right out of "Parker Lewis can't lose".

I kind of understand where bret is coming from but compare bret to Scott steiner and see who holds your attention more Bret with his competent ring skills and psychology or steiner with his frankensteirs back flip bodyslams powerbombs amazing(ly funny) mic skills and iron sheik temperament. I think theres a good enough place for all of the acts at the circus tbh from guys like the warlord who look stronger than hercules to the hyper smaller technicians,. and a healthy mix of both is always great like chris candido who was better in ring than bret and looked like a million bucks.

I've seen the Bret and Flair matches, both House Shows as well as TVs and if that's Flair sabotaging them, then Flair is by far a better wrestler than I already give him credit for. In other words, Bret is talking bullshit. He justifies his own insecurities by projecting them onto others and this is a classic example. All the while Bret was in the WWF he stunted Owen's progression in the company. Prime example from Bret's own mouth. He's said that he and Owen had figured out a match for WM10, but when Bret saw the high flying moves that Owen was becoming famous for, he nixed them and told Owen that it would be hard for a heel to gather heat doing flying moves. That's bullshit, plain and simple. Kensuke Shinzaki as "Hakushi", Bam Bam Bigelow, Big Bossman, Jimmy Snuka, Steamboat and the like had no problem gathering heat whole keeping the high flying in their matches. Bret's the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be at bullshitting to gain popularity. He needs to remember that those around when he first hit the scene are till round today. What a bullshitter

***** It was a great match for a "first match" at a Wrestlemania (in other words it wouldn't be considered a curtain-jerker), but it wasn't a great match in terms of showcasing what both were capable of in the ring, basically because Bret nixed a good portion of what Owen's match would have contained. The best match Bret and Owen ever had was a 2 out of 3 falls match at a House Show at Madison Square Gardens purely for the fact that Owen was allowed to get heat from the crowd; he was allowed to engage them outside of the ring and he was allowed to do some fancy stuff as well. Nothing like that happened at WM10, not even being able to get some heat from the crowd at the end of the match, which was criminal, especially given the storyline at the time and more importantly that Owen had "won" the match anyway I'll say it again, it's bullshit nixing the majority of the other wrestler's match based on something that held no water whatsoever. As I said there were a fair few high flyers around at that time who'd managed to incorporate their high flying in the matches as still keep the heat on them and I'm sorry but it really is nonsensical believing that a high flying move had to be different for it to gain heat. It's not the move that gains the heat its everything else around it that's supposed to do that; the psychology and the storytelling in the ring. I watched the WM10 match and was bored to tears with it because Bret had basically muted Owen with his bullshit

I liked watching Bret wrestle but he just seems wound up too tight from all the other shoot interviews I watched Bret really thought he was the greatest wrestler of all time. he was good but he could have always been better his mic work needed improvement. He could still be a great wrestler if Goldberg hadn't kicked him in the fucking head and fucked him up. but then again Goldberg hurt a lot of guys cuz he couldn't execute moves right.
