The Guy Fawkes Gun Powder plot takes viewers into the clandestine world of English Catholics in the early 17th century: persecuted by law, they were forced to worship in secret as their faith was believed to be disloyal to the crown. We'll meet the prime movers of the plot: the disgruntled sons of the persecuted elite.

Every accused Witch also suffered as such. The dark ages were truly dark. The Romans were equal with their tortures during the time of Christ, they even crucified dogs.
@inkyguy
@inkyguy 3 жыл бұрын
@@bonniemagpie5166 , crucifixion was not limited to the time of Christ. The Roman state lasted over a thousand years. It was not abolished until Constantine. Until then crucifixion was a standard form of Roman execution for hundreds of years for particular crimes, especially those against the state, throughout its jurisdictions. Besides Rome, crucifixion was the standard form of execution in Carthage for all capital crimes. The Greeks disliked crucifixion but even Alexander the Great, who though Macedonian fully adopted and promoted Hellenic style and culture, crucified 2,000 prisoners from one battle and crucified his own personal historian when he criticized Alexander for self-deification.
@inkyguy
@inkyguy 3 жыл бұрын
@@bonniemagpie5166, Technically, the “dark ages” refers to an historical period in Europe following the fall of the Roman Empire in which there is virtually no written history, hence it is an historically “dark period.” The term is now considered ahistorical by professional historians. Those forms of torture and execution like crucifixion existed before the Romans and lasted long past the “dark ages” into and throughout the Renaissance and Reformation, which are the periods you’re probably really thinking of. These practices did not really end until well after the Enlightenment, well into the 19th century. Unfortunately, torture and execution are still not abolished, even in the West. Ironically, the U.S., whose creation sprung directly from Enlightenment liberalism is one of the few democracies that permits torture of prisoners (using the euphemism “enhanced interrogation techniques”) and practices the death penalty. It is certainly most frequent killer of criminals amongst modern democracies, behind only China in per capita executions, I think. Also ironic is that despite the crucifixion of Christ and the way execution and torture have been used against Christians (and many others) for nearly two millennia, it is modern Christians, at least in the U.S., who are some of the strongest and most vocal proponents of capital punishment.

14:20 - 15:12 When James came down to Scotland, it became the classic honeymoon period, he's doing everything a king iniatially should, he's holding everything that runs in lighting everything that crawls. He larthers the British nation with flattery, with honours and as part of this, he relaxes the percecution of Catholics. He remmits the recusants the fines, that is to say he instructs the collectors of recusants the fines simply not to collect them, so there is a period of easement for about a year. But by the Summer of 1604, it's clear that, nothing is going to happen, by way of a formal toleration, the recusant laws have not been reppealed, nothing has been done to grant greater liberatists to Catholics, clearly James intended to do nothing for them.
@inkyguy
@inkyguy 3 жыл бұрын
Based this telling of the story, the plotters were insular, idealists, romantics (though that’s an anachronistic term) and religious zealots who had no sense of strategic thinking. Even had they succeeded in their destruction of Parliament and the English Establishment, it would have resulted in a level of persecution against every single Catholic within the English crown’s jurisdiction would have been wiped out, likely provoking both the legal and popular massacre of every Catholic, man, woman and child and anyone remotely suspected as even vaguely sympathetic to Catholics. It would have been a disaster for Catholics far beyond the consequences that actually followed the discovery of the plot.

From "A History of Their Own: Women in Europe, Volume1" by Anderson & Zinsser, 'Section II, Chapter 3. The Extraordinary', see page 167 --- ............. They say they serve to Protect those you love Protect those who stand and Finally Protect you. That protection ends and changes to their word of probable cause. Religion has been used since the beginning as a way to control the masses & even royalty. But we must not confuse religion with faith & belief in any God. A faith is the actual belief in a god & the writings of the faith. Religion is man made & thus easily corrupted. That’s why with the faith of Christianity you see throughout history and up until today that there are many religions which fall under Christianity which of course all claim to be the only “correct” one.🙄 Which nearly all are at best hypocritical and at worst horribly corrupt.
