The Centurion Israel used in this battle were highly modified. Diesel engines with more power. Think they replaced the 105mm L7 with an indigenous design. Upgraded the fire control and enhanced the armor. Took a good tank and made it even better. I like the Centurion before and after the upgrade.

To quote Brezhnev. We have offered them (the Arabs) a sensible way for so many years. But no, they wanted to fight. Fine! We gave them technology, the latest, the kind even Vietnam didn't have. They had double superiority in tanks and aircraft, triple in artillery, and in air defense and anti-tank weapons they had absolute supremacy. And what? Once again they were beaten. Once again they scrammed. Once again they screamed for us to come save them. Sadat woke me up in the middle of the night twice over the phone, "Save me!" He demanded to send Soviet troops, and immediately! No! We are not going to fight for them." 4 November1973

You presented this war as a merely territorial dispute. This is far from the truth. BEFORE the 1967 war, when the Golan heights were under Syrian control (with only army bases and no civilian population), they bombarded the Israeli Kibutzim, that sat to the foot of the heights, daily. Conquering the heights from the Syrians in the 67 war was first of all to prevent that bombardment, so they can never do it again. So this has nothing to do with a territorial dispute. And since the 1973 war, many villages and farms, as well as a city, were built there.

Let me see if I have this straight; - Syria attacks Israel and losses their own territory in the Golan Heights… in the war they started. - So then Syria AND Egypt attack Israel, in the Golan, and are defeated by a group roughly 1/5 their numbers. - Now, Israel has had the Golan for 50 years… or… longer than the average Syrian has been alive. - And Syria is STILL playing the “give it back or you’ll be sorry!” card?

It's kind of funny. Considering that the Israelis could have continued on to Bagdad and taken some more/all of Syria. And could have probably ended up with more of Egypt if they wanted. Over the years, the Syrian/Israeli conflict has gotten even more lopsided. Which is why it has become a conflict of proxies. As each side muscles up bigger bodyguards.

@Sorain1
@Sorain1 3 жыл бұрын
It is my opinion that the reason _is_ all that 'modern killing power', both because it makes armies more expensive to field (Shrinking their size) and because putting more firepower in the hands of a few better trained troops usually* works out better. Mostly the former reason in my view, better tech has made the gap between scratch militias and professional soldiers keep widening and so armies get more expensive per soldier and more capable per soldier. *Warning: Quantity has a quality all it's own, fighting an enemy who can vastly out number/produce you is virtually always a strategic loss no matter how many tactical victories you might win. See: Imperial Japan vs United States of America, United States of America vs Confederate States of America and Leonidas's personal guard and Athenians vs Persian empire.

For as long as there has been humans there has been conflict over land. Land for hunting, land for farming and land for your families to live on. And in all that time there is one, and ONLY one, axiom that has held true. It goes like this: If you cannot hold your land from aggressors then that land was never yours to begin with. For Syria to claim that the Golan Hights has always been theirs and will always be theirs is pure hyperbole. If it's theirs then let them take it back, if they can't take it back then it was never theirs in the first place.

Something common man is missing, kind of heroism and fight for truth, gets attracted to these pieces of history. But wisdom tells me peace is not related to owning any country or location. Only peace is inside man, you never find until really sought. Some guys rather die for few metres than sacrificing their life for seeking peace. Even die again and again. If peace is related to one man idea, thats more likely he gets killed fool rather than letting him go murder whole world. Definitely clear many of those guys dying there find their peace, fulfilling their wishes. That words of Syrian veteran "No peace until they get back to Golan... Well, wishes usually fulfill ed by easiest way, so peace for that guy just let him die, God wont let him kill all humanity. I listened to many veterans of wars, some already made peace becoming friends with former enemy. I wish best all peaceful men. There is no peace in others guy house to get in uninvited. Those hundreds of millions if not billions, plus lives spent. Tanks that could have been tractors, lives that could have discovered so much more than just killing.
