I enjoyed your video. You may wish to extend your research to cover the Sphinx of Giza. A reconstruction of the face of Giza suggests a face of an African person with an extended lower jaw bone. This is typical in some African groups such as the Bakongo (E.g. see a picture the sculpture of a Bakongo lady by by British sculptor and African explorer Herbert Ward.) That is, the Bakongo may be the descendants of the builders of the Sphinx and other structures in Egypt. The Bakongo lie directly to the West of the Zimbabwe where they reside in Angola and Congo. It is possible that the Bakongo took their expertise of building/sculpture in Egypt down to Southern Africa, and may have been the builders of the Great Walls of Zimbabwe.

There are two theories according to Wikipedia The name contains dzimba, the Shona term for "houses". There are two theories for the etymology of the name. The first proposes that the word is derived from Dzimba-dza-mabwe, translated from the Kalanga dialect of Shona as "large houses of stone" (dzimba = plural of imba, "house"; mabwe = plural of bwe, "stone"). A second suggests that Zimbabwe is a contracted form of dzimba-hwe, which means "venerated houses" in the Zezuru dialect of Shona, as usually applied to the houses or graves of chiefs. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Zimbabwe#Name Though house(s?) of stone seems more likely.

As a Zimbabwean I can share and add that; Dzimba(houses) bwe (stone) Zimbabwe means the great house (Zimba) of bwe(stone). So the word has a literal and a figurative meaning The people being the houses of stone. Meaning that the people carry the divine (Rock Eternal/Almighty God) within them. So for the simple minded who do not quite understand African spiritualism, hold onto houses of stone. However Zimbabweans are intently spiritual people like most Africans and in Shona most words/statements have literal and profound figurative meanings. If you understand that and also know that in Zimbabwe we have the Lemba(Black Jews) then you may understand that Zimbabwe refers to the being who is human but has a divine eternal spirit inside them.

I can't believe some of the petty people in the comments with their spamming. "Zimbabwe so great today!" "So great country Mugabe made it!" What does that have to do with the kingdom who built these immense stone constructions? How are they at fault for modern Zimbabwe? I detest Mugabe, but I'm not such an idiot that I'll start spamming a documentary video about an old kingdom in Zimbabwe that predates all this, which built vast stone constructions to such an extent that people in the coming centuries were left puzzled, because there was nothing like them elsewhere in Southern Africa (flaring up peoples imagination and making them think that surely these constructions must relate to biblical King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba or somesuch).

I was born in Zimbabwe of mixed race parents.Subjected to racism all my life from both Black and White. Therefore I feel that I can present an unbiased alternative theory as to the origins of the builders of this place. In the video I detected some anomalies for example the name of the place originates from the corruption of the word dzibawe meaning stone ruins. The complex is an astronomical observatory, similar to all the stone circles found at many ancient sites all over the world, e.g. Stonehenge and the so called prayer circles of North America and many more too numerous to mention. For one, the local people do not have a history of the study of astronomy. If at all, they do, could someone please correct me. One point that may prove that the complex is an observatory is to look at a structure on a hill called The Three Granaries , which are not traditional granaries but alignment points to mark the solstices and the equinox.

Actually, it's my opinion that the true mystery at Great ZImbabwe is in the ancient burials left by those who once inhabited the city. There aren't any. A few chiefs a few centuries old were buried on the Hill Complex & removed, much to the distress of the local Africans about a hundred years ago. But no large burial or cremation sites in the surrounding area have ever been discovered. This makes for an interesting conundrum. The dating for the city suggest that it was founded around a thousands years ago, thrved for around five hundreds years & was abandoned suddenly about five hundred years ago. It was then discovered by westerners about four hundred years ago. So, let's assume that Great Zim was built &remained a city full of people for around five hundred years. If that's true then many tens or hundreds of thousands of people must have lived & died in the city & around it. The problem is, no-one has been able to find any evidence of their burial or cremation. So either the dating is wrong & the site is actually so old that all those buried in the surrounding area are lost to time, or those who abandoned the city five hundred years ago took all their dead with them...

I read the comments below with people bickering about who built Egypt. Here is the bottom line: Africans have more diversified gene pool than any other race in the world (please fact check). Original settlers of Australia were black skin (fact check). Original settlers of Britain were Black skin (please! Fact check), the oldest civilization in the Americas were the Olmec (thick lip negroed features). Thousands of years ago, Africans that went into Europe eventually started developing brittle bones because melanin didn't allow for absorption of sunlight needed to produce vitamin D which in turn helps with the production of calcium (fact check) leading to the loss of melanin hence caucasoid features. The oldest settlers of Japan were Black skin (fact check). Conclusion: it would amount to sheer arrogance on anyone's part to imply or attempt to make the argument that civilization (whichever one) was founded by light skinned people. Caucasians, West indians, Asians, Mediterraneans and Semites came from the melanated people as a result of genetic adaptations. Please please let's stop this deliberate attempt at white washing everything. I really don't care who built great Zimbabwe, you are all Africans period.

Why is everyone getting their knickers in a knot over all this? They have found Chinese pottery & Arabian coins there but believe that this was from trade. Nobody knows the name of the tribe or group who built it. And while we are on the subject DNA has proved that an African tribe called the Lemba have substantial Jewish ancestry. This is thought to come from centuries later when Jewish traders penetrated up the rivers to trade. Nothing to do with the Zimbabwe Ruins. lt is thought that the first Europeans to "find" the ruins were the Portuguese in the 16th century.

The Lemba, some of whom descend from 1st Century CE Jewish Temple Priests who migrated into Africa and down to the Zimbabwe and South Africa Limpopo borderland region claim they built it. According to NOVA Magazine: "Many tribes, including the Shona and Venda, maintain that their ancestors were responsible for Great Zimbabwe, but the Lemba are "particularly insistent," says University of London scholar Tudor Parfitt. "They claim that one of their clans, the Tovakare, were the actual builders of Zimbabwe," Parfitt says. "They even call them Tovakare Muzimbabwe, which means 'the ones that built Zimbabwe.'" Certain evidence appears to support the Lemba claim. For instance, unlike other Bantu tribes, who bury their dead in a crouched posture, the Lemba bury theirs in an extended position, as did the ancient Zimbabweans. One of the strongest pieces of evidence concerns trade, Parfitt says. "Great Zimbabwe was a civilization that was constructed very largely on wealth generated from cattle and trade. And given that for hundreds of years we know the Lemba were the great traders of southern Africa, it seems almost certain that their ancestors would have been involved in this trading nexus between Great Zimbabwe and the Indian Ocean." "The mystery of Zimbabwe is the mystery which lies in the still pulsating heart of native Africa." If the Lemba contention is true, does this mean that outsiders-that is, not native Africans-built Great Zimbabwe? After all, the Lemba have Semitic origins (see Tudor Parfitt's Remarkable Quest). The answer is no, because by the time Great Zimbabwe was built in medieval times, the Lemba had become decidedly African, having so thoroughly intermixed with Bantu Africans over many hundreds of years that today, among other African traits, the Lemba have dark skin and speak a Bantu language."
