Not always critical thinking. The National Endowment for the Arts is responsible for .003% of the budget. And he's playing in to the myth that Republicans care about the deficit. Reagan, W, and Trump all expanded the deficit to record levels. Under Clinton and Obama the deficit shrank. Now to be fair to Trump, a sizeable portion of his deficit was from necessary aid packages due to COVID. So, I can give him a pass on that. But that $800 billion he added to the deficit b/c of his corporate tax cuts was pre-COVID and extremely unnecessary.

During the Trump administration he was anti-Trump, but still a moderate and in a world of ‘if you are anti-Trump you are a liberal’ he was labeled as such. Bill goes conservative sometimes because he is smart enough to not reject things that make sense to him when he sees and hears it and not hew to some party line just because "that's the party I'm in". The polarization of the left and right, conservative and liberal, Republican and Democratic is NOT an accurate representation of America as a whole. Most of us pick and choose at the buffet of options out there in the political spectrum to suit what values we were raised with and how we perceive cause and effect over our lives. We need to wake up to the fact that a two party system provides too few options and is not representative of how people think. Most, if not all, other representative governments around the world have more than two parties for a reason. The media loves the two party system because they continually play us off, one side against the other, because it makes the ratings go up and gives them something to talk about in the 24 hour news cycle. They couldn't do that if there were, say, five parties. Imagine if all of us Republican and Democratic party identifiers registered as Independents. Then nothing and no one is in the bag and they'd both have to present reasoned arguments to get enough votes to govern. And if their arguments were weak we'd just vote issue by issue instead of the party line. Now that would be something to see!

Trump lied and bullshitted in a folksy manner that far too many live as Fact. The "moderate" Politicians of both sides cater to the fringe minority lest they become the force de jour and the politician is left out in the cold. "Moderate citizens" of both sides basically do the same thing. No one wants left out and even worse everyone feels they need in on the ground floor. (Just look at the poor saps that get off by typing in "First" to KZbin comments - case closed.) Hypocrisy and ignorance at its finest. I don't see a way out frankly. The good thing is as a whole we are very lazy and comfortable; a 'civil' war that both sides like to toss out like parade candy will never happen.

Oh please, I am technically an adult but due to a certain mental illness, I can say with all total and complete honesty I have mentally never been truly or felt like an adult. My mindset is emotionally stuck in my late teens to early 20's and it will likely stay that way mentally emotionally and indefinitely for as long as I live. I'm 42 and still live with my Mom, because mental illness not an obsession with super hero toys and other such things. I am a heavily addicted ebay addict manga and anime fan and a hardcore yaoi fan. Every year I keep waiting to grow up and I never feel it. People ask me what I want to do with my life, and I say with total and complete honesty that I still don't what I want to do because I'm not grown up enough yet which I say non-jokingly. My body hasn't grown up yet and my mentality and emotional age will likely never grow up. Lastly please do not ask me why I still live with my Mom or about my mental illness, because it's not something I wish to discuss with anyone, literally ever not even myself.

Pretty sure he’s more libertarian than democrat. Which makes for more interesting discussions. I find myself constantly agreeing with him while disagreeing with him at the same time. It’s complicated… but basically, I’m a conservative libertarian while he’s a… I guess a liberal libertarian?!? So on an issue he may have the same end resulting idea as me but the way he goes about getting there is different. But ultimately… that’s what America could be like if we weren’t held hostage by the two political parties. Libertarianism is about freedom. I can find more common ground with an atheist liberal like him despite being a Christian conservative than I can with a lot of Republicans! I vote Republican more often than not… but I certainly don’t do it with a smile on my face. The lesser of two evils from my perspective. But only slightly lesser….

When I got home, I was hard pressed not to do the same thing my mother who was supposed to be watching her while I slept because I worked the night shift at a factory. My doctor recommended a reliable child care center and the next day, I took her there. It's not just kids who need to be spanked. The dilemma of the budget is that you have conservatives, who do not just want to not raise taxes, but even further lower it and the left, who wants to raise taxes, and throw out money like there is no tomorrow. In Germany you have conservatives, who do not just talk about balancing the budget, but actually do. During the recession in 08 and 09 Germany went deep into dept, going from 60% to 70% debt relative to GDP. But in the 2010s Germany payed back debt and increased economically and sat at 60% debt before the pandemic hit. This is how it should be, a country goes in dept when money is dearly needed and either outgrows or pays back its debt, when the boom comes.
