There was a dog in Sydney Australia that saved it is believed about two hundred people who tried to jump from the notorious suicide cliff The Gap for many years. At night the dog would escape from the owners property, walk to the spot, and could be found standing sentinel at the cliff all night, by its own volition and having never being trained to do so. He did this for many years (during the late 1980s/1990s). God rest his beautiful soul.

Thanks to some tireless work in my State, it [finally] became a felony to abuse an animal (Cruelty to animals). It’s a misdemeanor for neglect and/or abandonment. We MUST protect our animals at all costs. They give us unconditional love and their loyalty. The very least we can do for them is to treat them right, and let the authorities know if they’re being mistreated. And if they don’t hear you or don’t act on your info? Move up the chain of command. Society and peoples general attitude, interactions, self absorption, and lack of any communication skills whatsoever....I just don't like the interactions. Heads and fingers in phones constantly...so they don't watch what they do, or how loud they talk, and just plain how OBNOXIOUSLY RUDE it is...I'm just tired of it. Self righteousness, self righteousness, self entitlement attitudes.....smh. I can't believe what we, as a whole, society, as groups...have become. My Akita saved me from another dog who had shown up in our yard while I was outside watering our garden. The dog came out of nowhere & I didn't see him until it was too late. He grabbed me by the back of my leg & bit down & started growling & shaking his head like he was trying to rip my leg off & I screamed. The regular door to my family's log cabin was open, but the screen door was shut. My Akita, Buck heard me screaming & he jumped right through the screen & then jumped off the side of our front deck & within seconds he had the other dog by the throat & pulled him away from me & had him off the ground & was shaking him like a ragdoll. Blood was flying everywhere. My dog literally ripped the other dog's throat out & killed it. He saved my life, but I was still sad that the other dog was killed. Akitas are very loyal dogs & will literally do anything to protect their humans. I had heard that saying many times, but I didn't truly understand what that meant until that incident. Aside from that incident, my dog was the sweetest & silliest dog ever.

Not everyone knows this but, Akitas were originally bred for dog fighting (and hunting large animals) so once your dog made the decision to go after the dog attacking you, I doubt anything would have stopped him from killing it. Instinct would have taken over at that point. I know it was very sad that the other dog had to die but, for that specific situation, you were probably very lucky to have an Akita. 'Cause he had the instinct to know what to do and how to win that fight without suffering serious injuries from the attack, himself. Another breed may not have been so well-equipped to handle that situation.

Akitas are no joke. They're beautiful dogs, but they're also super imprinted onto just one person unless you do a lot to train them to accept other people. Some people think of boxers as one person dogs, but they're got nothing on akitas.

I can relate to the gas leak story. I had a great black lab mix who came to me as a stray. He was a wonderful dog; sweet and sociable, but very protective of me. One evening we had been grilling chicken and I had cooked veggies inside on the stove top. After eating, we were relaxing and watching tv. My dog kept barking, whimpering & returning to the kitchen, wanting me to follow. With the smell of the food lingering, I thought he was begging for leftovers. 3 times he fussed & got me to go back to the kitchen. Each time I told him "No, you've already had your supper." Then left the room. On the third time, after saying "No food." He walked over to the stove, raised up on his hind feet with his front paws on the oven door handle. He lowered his nose on the edge of stove top, pointing it directly at the front gas burner- the one that I had turned down on low & forgot to turn off! I guess he was returning the favor; I saved his life by taking him in when he needed a home. He probably saved my home and my life that night. It wasn't until I thought about it later that I realized my dog may be smarter than me. He obviously could smell the gas & I couldn't. But it dawned on me later that although I had assumed he wanted food, he never went over to his bowl, or licked his lips, which he usually did when begging for food. After I turned off the oven and told him what a "Good boy" he was, he walked away, went to his bed, settled down and sighed, as if to say "I've done my job so now I can relax."

It can come from any fuel burning appliance that is malfunctioning (gas stoves, fireplaces, furnaces, barbecues, space heaters, etc). Please equip your houses with a CO detector widely available at hardware stores: they are as essential to your safety as smoke detectors and fire alarms. Never ignore the alarm if it goes off: get everyone out of the house and call the fire department and gas company from OUTSIDE in the fresh air. If everyone in the house is experiencing headaches, unusual sleepiness, nausea, dizziness, weakness, then consider it may be from CO poisoning and get OUTSIDE and call for help. @@emmacoughlin11 why do people like you always think, because you put your diet out there that you're better or something because you don't eat meat? It's an I don't eat me because I love animals, but I love other animals that eat meat. So it's ok when they do it, but it's not ok when humans do it. Even though humans are animals. Like people that eat meat are incapable of loving animals as much as you because they eat meat. It's so odd, it's like me walking up to somebody hi, my name is so and so, and I am a omnivore. 😹 Like, do people really ship 2 shits about what you eat like, is that the principle of whether or not you really love animals are not is because you don't eat meat? 😐

My old English Springer Spaniel Dolly, RIP sweet girl 1996-2010, was my best friend. I’m autistic and Dolly would instantly know when I was having a panic attack, she wasn’t trained at all. She would always lean on my left side. I saw a tree hit our house during a bad thunderstorm when I was 18, I’m 36 now. I have been terrified of storms ever since. She was always there for me. When there was a storm she would look at me look over at the window, look back at her bed, she slept on an old sofa, then look at me again. It has been 11 years since she had to put down. I miss her every day. Sorry about the long rambling sentences.

I could list endless ways my family’s dogs over the years have both helped and saved us. Perhaps the earliest in my memories I should start with. Lucy was a German Shepherd/Great Dane mix. She was sweet, lovable, and maternal. She was like that dog Nanny in Peter Pan and would tuck us into bed and herd us. She genuinely looked after my siblings and I. Then there is Cha Cha. Cha Cha was a mix of many things. She was also one of our most intelligent dogs we had. To put it simply we didn’t train her. There was no making her do what she didn’t want to if she didn’t want to. She did train herself however. One day my siblings took her on a walk with one of the neighbor kids. They tried to cross a street and Cha Cha refused to let my siblings move, held them back. The neighbor kid got hit (he was fine, it wasn’t hard and he didn’t even need surgery but he had some road scrapes). So that’s another. I can keep going. We have Diddle a chihuahua, brave and true and ran off many bully when my siblings walked. We had my dog Gretchen, who did much the same though she loved everyone until then. We had many a good pup. Our latest pair is Coda, an old lady dog who came from an abusive home and was abandoned before the shelter got her. She saved herself. We have had her a few years now and she finally is at ease and expresses herself and shows my dad affection, something genuinely amazing given one of her triggers is adult men. She has also learned to just lay out in the sun and even be sassy. So yes, this is worth praise. And then we have Crystal. She is my dad’s service dog. When we adopted her she was meant only as a pet, but she would wake dad at night, consistently, when his blood sugar got low. We eventually realized she was doing this on purpose and from then on gave her the training she would need to do what she wanted but as a service dog (she loves her job). I can’t even list the number of things she has saved dad from at this point. But she has done everything from fetching his inhaler during a bad asthma attack to still alerting when dad’s blood sugar monitor malfunctions, to making dad lay down or lean against a wall when he gets dizzy. Once he even fell on a walk (thin layer of mud on the sidewalk) and she ran off and brought a father and his toddler in a stroller back to help dad up. Recently this January she alerted us at night when dad had his first ever stroke. We got him to the hospital and he suffered very little of any damage, most being that he gets dizzy so he mostly doesn’t drive. It didn’t affect his cognitive functions otherwise and doesn’t show physically. Obviously since then she watches him carefully and is even more strict about checking how he is. She will come inside and immediately check him out before doing anything else. She’s got her work/life balance down pat. Knows when to relax and when to drop everything for her job. They are doing just fine. Oh! And I should mention Coda was chosen by Crystal herself. Not only did they hit it off when they met (we insisted if we got another dog they needed to be compatible with Crystal so she came to pick out at the shelter too) but Crystal taught her everything she needed to know about relaxing in the backyard, playing, and loving Dad. Crystal, though younger, is the boss it seems though she leads with loose reigns. I suppose I should also mention that at the time we picked out Coda that my Mom was laid up with a broken ankle due to missing some steps on the stairs. Luckily she has recovered and recovered well but Coda was my mom’s constant companion while mom worked from home and learned how to move around mom with both wheelchair, crutches, and cane. She also learned to keep an eye on mom if mom was in the shower and come get me if mom either called for me or if mom stumbled or fell (was my mom’s caretaker during recovery). Yeah I can go one. I don’t have room to list everything that each of my family’s dogs has done for us or themselves over the years but suffice to say that they are amazing and I adore each and everyone one of them. No two were alike and were very very different personalities at times. Yet still they were amazing and devoted and I’m genuinely grateful to have had them in life past, present, and future.

What I really liked about this video is I'm so glad that they showed a lot of pit Bulls. Pitbulls and Rottweilers all these other dangerous dogs get such bad raps, and it's not their fault. It's the fault of the human that train them to be violent. Pitbulls raised right are the biggest, most loving protecting dogs out there. There's a man that lives in my apartment building with their pit bull, and he loves my cat, and as soon as he sees, my cat he sits down, and he stays as still as can be, he said, I want to be your friend cat, can I be your friend? Do you want to play, he even brought the cat a toy one time, and my cat with her stuck up self, dismiss them with her paw, and was like go awat, I don't have time for the drool😹 So after my beloved Kitty, she's gonna be 9 this October crosses the Rainbow Bridge, I'm gonna get me a pit bull, but as of right now, she will not allow it. She was mad at me for about a year when I bought home a kitten. 😸

@@93ImagineBreaker pit Bulls were not bred to fight in dog fight, unfortunately as a baiting dog like the English bulldog from whom they descended from, they were bred to hold down large game like bears so that the humans can come and kill the bear. If you would actually read up on their breed, you will see that pitbulls love humans that they don't even make a very good guard dog. So all this stigma and stereotypes you have about the pit bull, you need to flush it down the toilet because your ignorance is showing. Never forget the most dangerous animal on the earth are human animals, not the pit bull, not the Dober man, not the Rottweiler dog, but humans that have taken what they bread and use it for a purpose that this animal was not bred for. Don't let stigmas scare you from a breed that is one of the most loyal dogs out there. 🤔👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 Shortly before the Civil War, immigrants from the British Isles came to the United States, but along with them came their Pit Bulls. It was during this time that the Pit Bull Terrier breed was named the “American” Pit Bull Terrier. Though these dogs had been specifically bred for fighting, they soon became a much larger and invaluable fixture in a developing nation. In early America, these frontier dogs took on an all-purpose role. They were responsible for herding cattle, herding sheep, guarding livestock and families against thieves and wild animals, helping on the hunts and as hog catchers. Their loyal and loving demeanor with humans, especially children (this is where the “Nanny Dog” myth originated from), earned them a prominent place not only as a working dog but as a companion. During the first half of the American century, Pit Bulls remained a prominent part of culture. Public attention turned away from fighting dogs and they began to see them as working-class companions. The USA admired this breed for qualities that it likened in itself; friendly, brave, hardworking, worthy of respect and they became, the “All American Dog”. During WWI and WWII, Pit Bulls were used as the nation’s mascot. Their image of bravery and loyalty was displayed throughout advertisements during wartime. The more notable of the first war-dogs was Sergeant Stubby. Sergeant Stubby has been called the most decorated war dog of WWI and the only dog to be nominated for rank and then promoted to sergeant through combat. He served 18 months on the front lines in 17 battles and 4 different campaigns. Sergeant Stubby is just one example of the many other Pit Bulls that have served their country in wartime. Click here for more amazing war dogs! In addition to their wartime contributions, the Pit Bull became America’s sweetheart. Frequently being used for commercial advertisements and products, in company logos and in popular television shows. Perhaps the most famous Pit Bull was Petey, the adorable ring-eyed cutey featured on Little Rascals. The pit bull was also a favorite among politicians, scholars, and celebrities. Helen Keller, Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Edison, Mark Twain, Fred Astaire and Humphrey Bogart, just to name a few, all had pit bulls as companions. After WWII, Pit Bulls began to be seen more as “regular dogs”. They were given attention neither more or less than any other breed. Surely, underground fighting must have taken place, but it seemed this was a rather small percentage. The vast majority of American Pit Bull Terriers were used for herding, hunting or guardian purposes, but most were bred and kept primarily as companions. So what changed? In 1976, Congress amended the Animal Welfare Act of 1966 to address dog fighting, among other issues. This groundbreaking amendment made dogfighting officially illegal in all 50 states. Today, dogfighting is a felony in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In most states, the possession of dogs for the purpose of fighting is also a felony offense. As well as, being a spectator at a dogfight is illegal in all states except Montanan and Hawaii. Unfortunately, many times when an act is made criminal, it draws the attention of criminals. As dogfighting began to re-emerge in the 1980s, animal advocates put an increased focus on the cruel, barbaric and illegal blood sport. The inadvertent and unfortunate side effect of this new movement was that some people began to seek out Pit Bulls for illicit purposes. The criminal set began trying to squeeze these dogs into a mold they were never designed to fit. The breed who was once bred to treat every stranger like a long-lost friend was now being used as guard and protection dogs and were being fought in underground fighting rings. The demand for pit bulls led to many owners breeding their own dogs without concern for temperament or socialization and for the purpose of making a profit, rather than providing a responsible home. Soon Pit Bulls were associated with poverty, “urban thugs” and crime. They were viewed as money-making commodities instead of family members and companions. love-a-bull.org/resources/the-history-of-pit-bulls/

Dogs are pack animals with a natural instinct to protect their pack, which is why dogs are often protective of their owners to the point where they can save lives from time to time. They are also a lot more sensitive to sounds and smells humans are most often incapable of even perceiving, which is why I recommend that if your animal is acting weirdly, don't write it off bc there's a good chance they're sensing something you cannot (such as that one instance with the gas leak in this video)

Some Pits have to be Euthanized due to dog fighting. I know one woman who rescued such a Pit. He was a trained killer. The dog had to be kept in a fence and on a long leash. Only person that could approach him was her and her husband. He would kill anything else. Anything else that got in his reach he really did kill. Some dogs don't have that special person in their life and some dogs won't accept anyone. Then sometimes you have to buy a dog to get them out of bad situations. My family specifically purchases abused or neglected dogs. We had one dog who lived in the bathroom. Had to teach him to drink out the water bowl. He wasn't given a bowl of water and so he drank out the toilet. He actually thought that's how you get water. Think about it, a dog who only Think a you're supposed to drink out the toilet. A dog you had to train to drink put a bowl. I buy abused or neglected dogs, and cats.

She was chained in a yard her whole life and never knew love, and she was a fantastic dog, I just couldn’t imagine someone doing that to such a sweet soul. Later in her life, one of my cousins was poking at her face and getting really close to her mouth, all the parents warned him to be careful about a dogs boundaries, yet he continued to say she can’t do anything, she’s so small! (She was about 30 pounds). After a while of getting all up in her space, she finally nipped him on the nose (mind you, this was a correction nip, a nip mother dogs use to teach their puppies, so it’s a bit rougher than for example, a play nip). The nip/bite broke the skin on his nose, but it wasn’t very serious. The cleaned it and didn’t need to put a bandaid on it, but it was still very surprising that she would do that, as they had never had any issues before with her. They later had to get give her back to a shelter because she was escaping the yard constantly and chasing after the neighbors livestock. It wasn’t very serious but eventually the neighbor threatened to shoot her if they saw her again, even though she had never killed or hurt his livestock. Nonetheless they couldn’t risk her getting out again, and several other issues started to arise with her, it got to the point where they took her to a professional trainer and the trainer took her for one day and said the dog was untrainable. They tried their best with her, but they weren’t the right family for the dog. They had her for a few years but sadly they couldn’t keep her. Her name was Bess.

Yeah pit bulls are a breed that have a bad rep because of stupid people training them to be bad when really they that such natural loving, gentle, patient, loyal and protective temperament they dont deserve the bad rep that stupid people have given them

My sister had a rottweiler that was the biggest sweetie pie unless you tried to baby talk to him. Her boyfriend wanted him to be "tough" instead so he would use baby talk while slapping him around as a puppy tryna get him to playfight (he didnt want to fight back), so when he got big he associated baby talk with a threat and would growl back at anyone doing it People like him get dogs killed. Guess how well it went when he would get out of the yard and someone would see him and try to calm him down and find his owner. Backing away and growling at everyone who get near him looks more like a vicious dog on the loose than a scared dog thinking everyone around is actively trying to hurt him Thank god i got there (he was in a nearby park) before animal control and told everyone just talk him in a normal voice and he'll be ok, and called him over for ppl to meet properly and even pet him, or my sis might've lost her dog to a neighborhood in fear for themselves and their kids

I believe the reason pits are not used as often is because their jaw can lock, and they cannot let go. Other then that I agree! My aunt has three, one of which has some anxiety issues, though the others are literal piles of love. The only way they would hurt you is by quite literally jumping and ramming into you with kisses, lol! Love them.

All these dogs we have seen here are real heroes, and there are a lot more hero pets we don't know about. Dogs are just so intelligent, we don't deserve dogs.

I absolutely love how many of these Hero Dogs are pit bulls or pit bull mixes. Pitties are such sweet lovebugs who would do anything for their hoomans, as would any other dog!

I am crying. These animals are so heroic, for the lives they saved. Putting themselves in danger to protect others from harm. I give this a very heartfelt A+++. If you can watch this video without crying then you have no heart.

This is why it breaks my f**king heart and makes me fighting mad, to see dogs chained up abused and mistreated, because we don't deserve the honor of being the caregivers to these wonderful animals.
