Saw the Downy commercial and thought I'm gonna listen to this song. I haven't heard it since I was a child. While listening and reading the lyrics it made me think of my mom. I take care of her now. She is 80 and has dementia. She is forgetting her yesterdays. It makes me so sad. I pray she doesn't forget everything. She had some great times in her life. Here is to all of us who have several years under our belt. I too have had a wonderful life. I pray we can all remember the times of our lives.
@DRock69063 жыл бұрын
I can relate to you Rachael. I too had a Mother that had Dementia. Sadly she passed away in January from it at the age of 85. It didn't get progressively worse until maybe a year before she passed. I took off of work to take care of her because she needed around the clock care. I have two brothers... One lives in another state and the other one was not well equipped to care for her so it was left up to me. I REFUSED to put her in a nursing home and kept her in her own home. I felt in my heart that she would have passed away quickly if I took her out of her familiar surroundings and placed her in a nursing home. She had a habit of just leaving the house unannounced which was the worst :'-( After that, it was what I liked to call "The Cooking Episodes". She wanted to continue to cook but would leave the food on the burner RUINING food many times. She also would put foreign objects in the microwave causing it to catch on fire one night. Then it was inappropriate attire... She would put on 2 or three sets of clothes and it would take an act of Congress for me to get them off of her. Then it was her ADL's... I had to force her sometimes to take baths because she wouldn't do it on her own anymore. I don't have any sisters so I had to rob her of her dignity bathing her and dressing her. But that was ok. I didn't mind. She stayed clean everyday, I brushed her hair everyday, I cooked for her everyday, and kept her safe from any harm everyday. Her sleeping habits got reversed towards the end too. She would sometimes stay up all night and then sleep all day. She remembered family for the most part right up until the end. She would, however, ask about my Father would had already passed away and her own Mother and Father who had long passed away :'-( Dementia is the cruelest form of torture for a person to go through. I had to watch my Mother turn from a strong, independent woman who worked and took care of a household into a child again. But that's ok. If I had to do it all over again, I would do things exactly the same. When she was able to focus on things, she liked to watch Andy Griffith, Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns, and The Golden Girls :-) She also loved to hear music from the 60's and 70's (Because those songs reminded her of when she was young) and she danced and sang to them :-) I'm a 52 year old man and I feel all alone in the world without my Mom and Dad :'-( I know that sounds funny because I have children and grandchildren. But they don't take the place of my Mom and Dad. I hope God gives you strength to care for your Mother with her ailment and I hope my story helps you in some kind of way. God bless you.

@@DRock6906 Thank you for sharing that with me. I applaud you for taking care of your mother. Like you, I will not ever put her in a nursing home. She was so good to me and still is. I am also 52 and feel very blessed to have my mom and dad. I will be with beside them until the very end. ❤

I thought about this song while driving around the neighborhood looking at the Christmas lights. I still live in the neighborhood that I grew up in. I made a point to drive by the addresses of old friends. They have scattered to the four winds: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Maine, Texas, Heaven. The memories came flooding back. The song came out in my last year of high school. It was poignant then, and the passing years have made it even more so.

This song gets to my heart every time I hear Paul Anka's rendition of this classic. The 70's era of music is just so superior to what we hear these days masquerading as music; with all of the auto tuning and computers; I mean, who can actually sing. I was listening to a classic Casey Kasem Top 100 count down for the year of '77 and he did a quick run on the 28 songs that had been #1 that year. And boy all of that great music from just one year was mind blowing. I was 16 back in '77 and hearing that TP 40 on XM radio I must say was nostalgic. And Anka's song right up there. Do you remember?❤

I don’t know, but personally, I feel that there has been such a major change starting with the eighties. Things have not been the same since. This song filled me with sad nostalgia when I heard it years ago. But there is another perspective to counteract this one, as noted by the Apostle Paul: "one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus." Don't fixate on this life only.

Thanks to the big breaks I get from my taxes for people like me after 65 years. You can be as old as you want. It’s all in your mind. In fact, I fell like now doing something nobody done before. Beautiful song ! After losing my brother 21 years ago, it taught me to never take one day for granted. I am so very grateful to have made it 53 years so far. I hope for many more years to come. Will have to see what God has in store for me. We never know when our time is up, so make as many wonderful memories as you can. Make time for those you love and care about. Be nice to everyone and make each person you deal with on a daily basis feel that they matter and watch the smiles you get back from them. It will make you feel good as a person.

+cleaningtim I am a few years older than you but it seems like everyone around me are dropping dead, I have so much work to do because of death of family and close friends. I feel like the minute I get done--I will probably drop dead too. my family always said I spent too much money on doing the things I enjoyed--looking back--I do not have much regret, and am still working on my bucket list, thank you for sharing your story,

Thank you for sharing your story also, and for taking the time to read mine. Sounds like you are trying to enjoy your life, and I think if you have to spend to do it, so what. You can't take it with you. That is why you work. I learned recently of several friends I lost that I went to high school with. Too young to have already died. There again, it makes me grateful for every day that I am given. Hope you continue to enjoy your life.

All I have now is to remember the times of my life for cancer of the liver took my young husband of 57 years in 8 short weeks.We were high school sweethearts. How do you start to live again,happily again when it feels like a tornado ripped through and took my whole life as I knew it.Teardrops rolling down on my face.Please pray for me that God will heal my shattered heart and restore some kind of healing within my heart.So I can somehow go on without my soulmate,my best friend,my lover.I think 3have cried a small pond over my loss of one of the greatest men in the world that I was lucky enough to call my husband.

I just missed my dad more because of this song. Reminded me of just how hard life is for him but still looked forward for a better future for us, until he got old and weak. But when he looks back at his life, he happily shares it with us. I thank him for paving the way for us. I know you are in rest now, with our Lord. Where you won't have to suffer at work hard for others. Don't mind me. Haha! This song is his favorite back then. I just miss him singing this

I heard this song today a far distance away from the TV. I remembered hearing it as child. I was 10 years old when this song came out, and I thought it was beautiful then. So l looked it up online today, and as the song played, I had to grab onto something, because the words touched my heart so deeply, I felt like I was sinking. I have the fondest memories of my childhood during those days you know -my innocence. There was so much love, laughter, and hope. The music in the 70's: soul, rock, country, jazz, blues, etc., was in my opinion the very best, and I'm so glad I was there to experience it. Thanks Mom for exposing me to so much music! Those were the days.., or should I say "the times of my life."

This makes me feel so good like I'm lying down and seeing my whole life. The lyrics of this song are enduring... The song summarizes all that we need to do while we have breath... while we have this so-called LIFE....Its truth remains the same throughout eternity no matter what the generations may be. Moments. Times... They run through our life...When they are gone, we have something left to us, something to hold on to: MEMORIES.... and they are the ones we play over and over again. I love this song so much!

OMG. Life is so short. This make me cry. A lot. A 50 yr old man. Crying. It depresses me. But I listen to it when my 6 yr old drives me crazy. Then I hold him so tight, realizing, I will not see him when he is 50. And I cry more. And more. And I miss my parents, and cry more. And my wife thinks I have a problem now. Thanks Downy, and your sad commercial.

Remember this song very well from the mid 70's when I was about 10 years old. It was a very popular "jingle" for Kodak and dominated Kodak commercials on both TV and RADIO during this era and well beyond. Occasionally you still here this song being used, even today on various commercials or in movies and television. Paul Anka hit a master stroke with this jingle and he knew it. He went on to lengthen the original jingle and record it as a studio song which climbed the record pop charts to #7 in 1976. It is probably Anka's most well known song across the entire world. Fun fact, Paul Anka is most popular in the Country of FINLAND where he has a strong following of fans.
