It wasn't just the ukranians that fought with the nazis , quite a few eastern europen countries did aswell, Ukraine though commited horrific acts like murdering 100K jews, 120k polish civilians in a horrific manner. They were not held guilty of war crimes though as the west wanted to use them agasint the russians at a later date as with the nazi's defeated they decided , for no reason that russia was their next enemy. Trying war criminals is a tool of the west, the USA said that they will never allow an ally to be convicted.

In an interview the defence minister said "our allies decided, and we can't choose when to be allies or not", basically saying Italy can't just decide to keep out of it. Once Salvini tried to shut the southern borders and he is facing trial for it. Germany wanted to stay out of it as well, but they blasted the gas pipelines in retaliation. Countries that lost WW2 can not decide on foreign policies without asking for the winners approval.
