This short special military operation seems more like a real war

The most plausible thing was an aim from Putin to create Ukraine as his poppet state (grab more land in the east, and keep parts of Ukraine like Belarus "a satellite state", or take it whole if possible). It seems the Russian intelligence made a huge mistake, they estimated that Russia could drive into Kiev, face a minimal resistance, and then Ukrainians would see it´s impossible to fight such a large army, and give up. They mounted around 1000 tanks and vehicles north of Kiev, and tried to "drive in". Intelligence (either as propaganda or missed information - spread that Ukrainians would welcome the Russian soldiers with flowers - well they did not). Ukrainians who had been under Soviet (Russian) rule before, decided "never again". They fought hard with their old weaponry... they had only gotten some rifles and some anti-tank weapons from the west. But with determination they stopped the columns aiming towards Kiev, and it had to retreat. This made the SMALL SPECIAL OPERATION (that would take around 4-5 days) a FULL SCALE WAR with around 45.000 dead Ukrainian soldiers, and around 150.000 dead Russian soldiers + civilians on both sides. So to call it a special military operation today is dumb, it is the biggest wars in a decade (as far as I know).
