Am I the only one who could listen to him all night?? His humbleness gets me. A great actor that many actors would love to be considered as good as, and yet he always talks about the people HE "looked up to." What a legend.

Half my life I was a teacher to kids, a lecturer to students, a teacher trainer, an adult IT Trainer and a professional presenter, so I believe I can comment on how well a person can simply talk to a group of people. Michael Caine in my opinion and possibly being bias as we are both Cockneys is the absolute master of doing so. Perfect timing and delivery with the ability to mix humour in a sentence and then make a very salient sad emotive comment at the same time. Yes he learnt much at acting school and his experience over the years but accepting my world was working with teachers, lecturers and trainers plus teaching teachers, I knew many that had taught for decades, but I rarely came across truly natural 'communicators' that were born to stand or sit if front of people and talk to them. Michael Caine in his acting world was a truly NATURAL communicator and one of the best there has ever been. Even though his job was mainly to learn and act out scripts, he was able as Robin Williams could off the top of his head, come out with sentences that made people laugh, which other actors and comedians often paid writers to create for them and then ensure the interviewer would ask questions so they could repeat learnt lines and pretend they came up with the funny or clever answer themselves. Michael never needed that and more so he could go on for hours and people would want him to do so, as I was told by a camera operator who knew him well.

War is always racist. But there is some respect given to the Zulu impi's. "They can run twenty miles in the morning, and win a battle in the afternoon." (I may have the exact figures wrong). My analysis is, that the British took South Africa from the Dutch Afrikaaners, who took it from the Zulus, who had taken it from the previous African inhabitants! Notice also that the victorious little company are not English Brigadiers, they are Welsh Engineers!

Funny, I was just thinking about that very film. My sister took me to see it when I was a kid, I'm sure I only picked it because of the girl on the poster. I hope she at least marginally enjoyed it, I doubt it was her cup of tea at all but she took me out for the day and gave me free choice of what to go and see.

ABSOLUTELY!!! I happened to be living (BRIEFLY) in Manhattan and saw this in early FEB 1976. I was AMAZED by it. The byplay between Michael and Sean was stupendous. Such a sad ending, too. Made incredibly emotional as the 2 guys sing The Minstrel Boy as Sean is executed.

I strongly believe that this film would NEVER have been as good nor as popular if Gable and Bogey had done it. It called for two Brits ... and Connery and Caine were the PERFECT PAIR.

The ending is really what makes it a classic rather than a bloody good film.

Marvelous observation! You are right, VrgniaMailman, we might have lost the frightfully British aura of Kipling's. Mind you, the best line was not something Rudyard would have said: "We'll show you how to slaughter your enemies like civilised people".

Thunderous one . I think the reason some people don't hold Glengarry Glen Ross in the same esteem is that even though the acting is brilliant , the subject matter for some was not so captivating .

One of the greatest film actors of all time. Sleuth was absolutely killer. I need to see it again. Extremely powerful.

One of my all time favourites. Devastating, but also entertaining right through. Their characters were so completely at odds. The first time I watched it, I completely didn't expect that twist. So perfectly executed.

The "may I go to the bathroom" scene in Dirty, Rotten Scoundrels is very possibly the funniest scene I've ever seen in the movies.

4:35 - this is great ... you can speak faster michael, he's an honest man. And I've been very suspicious about people who talk slow every since.
