Phi Harding, you are priceless... your love for your craft and every tool, the box itself, your brilliant sense of humour and that contagious laugh... I could watch all day without ever getting tired of it. Thank you for many years of great entertainment and a lot of very interesting historical facts. You are a living legend 🌹

In TT season 8, the trailer with all the archaeological tools got stolen. Phil was the only one with a shovel the next day because he slept with his under his bed!

I can remember filming a short piece on Phil and his toolbox for an interviewer around that some time, and know I reflect on how many times Phil must have done an interview like that over the years. He always finds a fresh approach and the enthusiasm is sincere, but what is even better is watching him at work with his chosen tools. Hats off to a true archaeological craftsman!

Phil, Mick and the rest of the time team crew got me really interested in archeology. They make it so relatable. I think they have done more for the field than most when it comes to making it a subject that would interest the masses.

The one thing I have to have is a 5 m tape, followed by rite in the rain notebook and pencil and pen. 100 m tape, then towel (double ring marshaltown), and whisk broom, then round nose and square nose shovels, hand pick, eye loop, ice pick, and assorted plastic and paper bags with the ever present sharpie. Vials for beads and other small objects with toilet paper for cushioning. That and a hat and you're good to go. And pants. You need pants.

I've done paleontology and it's interesting how different the tools are between the two disciplines. Except for pencil/pens and plastic museum quality bags to put finds into, I don't think anything is the same. The box becomes a backpack and a tool belt. Then there are plastic bottles of polyvinyl butyral dissolved in acetone. Brushes, dental picks (not much digging goes on). Camera, GPS, topo map.

@deborahparham37839 ай бұрын
He has it when he is digging, especially when he has to dig in the rain. When he's not digging he keeps his hands and fingernails scrupulously clean. He takes care of his hands because he is also a serious guitar player and plays finger style.
