I wonder where he initially got it from. If he came up with it himself one day, or perhaps it was something he heard when he was still a student, maybe the way some random person described a site to him... there are a thousand ways. Regardless, it is a perfect simple to understand description. (I have watched the entire series 4 or 5 times and certain episodes a lot more than that, but I cannot for the life of me remember if anyone ever said anything about where they got that term from originally)

My Dad was a huge Time Team fan and he recently passed from Cancer. It's been very hard, watching these new episodes. Mom has continued donating to Time Team on Patreon in his name. Keep doing what you guys are doing, it means a lot to my entire family. To lighten the mood when Mom and I were watching these new Time Team episodes, I started joking about how Phil and Tony should just show up, yell at people, then leave with absolutely no explanation. If you could make that happen, it would make my Mom smile. She doesn't smile a lot these days.

I know what you mean but I just want to add that Matt is at this point in his career an established archaeologist in his own right. He's had a long and fruitful career since his early days on the series. Rebekah, While it is great that the immortal "and we've only got three days..." lives on, and it's great that Stewart was the one who said it... but it's not Tony. The same way that it's not Mick asking questions about the findings. Many of the questions that he asked, he already knew the answers to; but people learn, and retain, more when they figure the answer out on their own, as opposed to being told (and Mick knew that). Tony was the voice of the people. He became so beloved because he asked the questions that we (the people watching) would have asked. He was the member of Time Team that was us, the novices. We became a part of Time Team (vicariously) through Tony. The new Time Team is just as fantastic as the original; but it will never be the same without Tony. Nor is it the same without Mick and Phil and Ian and a host of others that are no longer part of the current cast and crew of Time Team. But those who are no longer with us, will always be The Time Team, and will always be remembered.

Having watched scores of Time Team digs, I was a bit surprised by my emotional reaction to this current one. When in the opening segment Matt Williams issues his urgent call to arms, I experienced a delightful surge of the old excitement--a testimony, I think, to the anticipation this series has inevitably inspired in viewers. I also wish to say a quick word about Dr. Gus Casely-Hayford's commendable performance. He has inherited a hard act to follow, to be sure, but he acquits himself extremely well. I love the reverential wonder in his voice as he inspects each emergent find. Many thanks to all!

I may have an insight that could be of value for Time Team. I've seen every episode available on KZbin. When I saw this new episode, I was caught by the introduction being presented by Stewart. I couldn't wait to watch it. While exploring my long-time attraction to Time Team, I was reminded of a recent interview with Richard Hammond of Top Gear fame. When asked about the phenomenal success of Top Gear, Richard said that it was all due to the fact that the presenters always kept one guiding element in every show - "their passion for the automotive world." Richard said that no matter how silly and outlandish each show was, "the passion was always at the center." It seems obvious to me that the passion for archeology present in all of the previous shows is what made me watch every episode. Tony's genuine passion may have acted as a spotlight to expose the passion in all of the other team members. I believe that Tony also demonstrated that slick presentations. My final thought is even though new archeological technology and better production is of some value, it's the passion for archeology from all of the team members that will keep me subscribed to Time Team. I began with my experience of seeing Stewart at the beginning of this last episode and I knew his passion was going to make a great show. 🙏 Sim Graves

I prefer Gus by far. Found Tony a bit hectoring and diva-ish

@@naradaian To be honest, I don't prefer him to Tony, but I like Gus. I think he would be far better as a replacement for Robin Bush. Not only is History his actual profession, he has just the right voice for it. I could really imagine him doing Time Team Extras! For the presenter, I honestly think they need someone more up-energy. Tony is a little too snarky sometimes, but the right level of dynamism. You can really tell that Gus has the same enthusiasm, but it's his nature to temper it, which isn't right, here.

Ah, yes, just to hear the various musical themes anew causes a Pavlovian reaction in me. I am happy, if only for the next 20 minutes.

You've certainly captured part of the magic of the original Time Team episodes. Catching lightning in a bottle twice??? You're good. Very good. ;)

Seeing old Time Team staff again is so nice. From the guy finding things to being the one calling them in.
